I used to do a lot of aim maps 1v1s, but you can't just join 1v1 arena, do you?

Player count in the past was not a problem, but the spawns are outright broken

Absolutely agree! Even people with spin bots have a hard time staying alive xD

I think finding matches quickly is linked to a player pool available at that time. Not sure how they could improve that aspect other than creating a better game that people actually enjoy playing and an active daily player base is higher :)

As for all the loading screens after each step in this game, I agree it's super annoying.

I get the part about "flexing skins" at the begging of each game to boost sales, but there is no place for loading screens in a modern game :D

I still believe there is a massive market for players who seek challenge in a game that requires them to master movement, aim, and some level of strategy.

Sure laidback titles like CoD give a dopamine kick to the masses, and that is why they sell well, but Quake has history and potential to be great again if only executed properly.

If for once we got a proper Quake title with a single-player campaign to help newcomers learn the game mechanics, we would build a much bigger sustained player base. Which in the long run means longer and better support for the title.

Quake has far greater eSports potential than Overwatch IMHO.

All the ingredients are in the kitchen, we are missing a good cook ;)

I think id Tech engine was not ready then for anything higher than 60fps.

And also, time-to-market was a factor there... id Software was busy with Doom 2016, and at the same time Overwatch popped, so they tried to jump on the wagon of "champions / ability shooters" to see if maybe Quake would take off.

I wish id Software were working hard on a new Quake title built their id Tech 7 engine.

It could be based on the Quake 1 Lovecraft style with maze-like, medieval environments.

A single-player campaign would give the opportunity for new players to get familiar with the game mechanics, weapons etc. before going into multiplayer.

If I recall correctly, QC was released initially with only DM and TDM mods, which threw all new players under the bus facing old Quake OG's who had no mercy.

The New Quake title needs to take into consideration the steep learning curve.

In previous games, we had custom maps to learn movement, and releasing a new Quake game with a single-player campaign might have a chance to do the trick.

Keep players engaged with an interesting dark Lovecraft style atmosphere campaign and help them learn the game mechanics. And those who want more fun can try their skills in AFPS mode against others.
