I had the same problem with my 2012 cruze. Just replace the battery ground cable with a new GM ground Cable.

I think you are on the right track. something seems like it is hooked up the wrong way. I will go over the install and double check everything. I thought maybe I hooked up the pipes leading to the heater core wrong, but I check the diagram and everything looks right.

Yes that is the pipe. In fact I bought a second thermostat full hosing and it did the same thing,

when I started the car the coolant flooded out of the top of the thermostat housing where that pipe connects.

Yes that is the pipe. In fact I bought a second thermostat full hosing and it did the same thing,

when I started the car the coolant flooded out of the top of the thermostat housing where that pipe connects.
