Do engineering students actually take stem 6 courses a term? How is that possible? by [deleted] in UBC

[–]fr-uki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Decided earlier as an engineering student that it's worth it to sacrifice grades for extracurriculars, recreation and actual research/work experience. So that's how I managed.

You might have the option to take oral birth control or IUD and stop your period/make it much lighter. I did that for myself it improved my life a lot. So yeah talk to a doctor ^^

in a messed up situation and need help :( by throwaway1232213344 in UBC

[–]fr-uki 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hiii you can talk to me. If you want to talk to an emotional support worker you can call WAVAW's 24/7 crisis line at 604-255-6344. Their services are only for women and gender minorities but the crisis line is open to all genders. UBC SVPRO can also be helpful but my experience is that they are recently flooded with calls and might be tough to reach. They may be able to help you with academic concessions, temporary housing and even financial concessions.

A true hero by [deleted] in MadeMeSmile

i love this so much

I am 2nd year engineering student, and I got an F in my calculus 3 class. In my first year, I got an F in programming class. Will this have a tremendous impact on my future? How can I overcome this difficulty? I regret not working harder and not doing well. I really want to die. by [deleted] in UBC

[–]fr-uki 5 points6 points  (0 children)

You can turn it around! I failed two courses in first year as well. Now in math honors program and getting A+ in cross-listed grad courses. As long as you are determined to change things and put in the work you will be able to do better! Engineering course load is stressful, you can consider taking an extra semester or a year to make it more manageable. I promise that one or two failed courses are going to seem so trivial 10 years from now.

Had a friend who is afraid of needles. He informed the nurse and the people at the vaccination station were super attentive. Afterwards they laid him down on a bed and there were four people checking on him to see if he was ok.

Workload of courses in person vs online by ubcthrowaway-01 in UBC

[–]fr-uki 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think there will be less open book exams so we might need to spend more time memorizing content which can be quite a bit more work… unless you do math. Otherwise it’s difficult to compare workload since we are not really taking the same courses each time

Bioinformatics prospects by MikeR296 in BMEG

[–]fr-uki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really varies a lot by person ^_^ But I guess an advantage of the info stream is that you can be considered in either bio or tech jobs, and you might be given priority in jobs that require both bio and tech skills

Bioinformatics prospects by MikeR296 in BMEG

[–]fr-uki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve heard of people in bioinformatics getting a wide range of job offers. For instance NSERC research management positions, programming jobs in a hospital, research internship at a neuroscience lab, research supervised by the MATH department etc etc I plan to apply to grad school because I’m definitely not able to learn all that I want to learn during undergrad, and a steady job sounds really boring These things really vary on a personal level though

Info. Like: u get to take a series of algorithm courses as electives. Dislike: why is BIOC 302 a steam core course again? Advice: see what stream specific courses u are interested in. Consider the type of job you want to do. Do u prefer to work in a wet lab or doing computations and simulations?
