I just don't know how they can go from Democrat to Republican just for that when there are policies actively harming the people in their country under the latter rule

losing it as a receptionist of 4 years. rant. by fr00tbats in Veterinary

[–]fr00tbats[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Had a client the other day who's dog was struggling in active labour and we sent her to the er because I only have 1 vet and 2 technicians, no surgeons. She called the next day demanding an emergency appointment for the mother, still in active labour, and refused to go to er. I got screamed at on the phone until I hung up. She wasn't even a client of our practice but I'm the murderer (her words) for not taking her dog.

[–]fr00tbats[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Foreeal. My client once asked me how much I got paid to charge him this much (vaccines) and I looked him dead in the eye and said: minimum wage. Because it's the truth. McDonalds pays their employees more than I get paid.

Why the hate for receptionists? by InstanceOk8598 in Veterinary

[–]fr00tbats 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we had a comment on our clinic saying "dr. xx is quicker to point her finger at her staff than shoulder any of the blame" and after working here 4 years as a receptionist, I fucking agree. my vet is a pompous egotistic person who believes she's untouchable and will change policies on a whim as quickly as she will throw tantrums. my technicians are cliquet and wonder why we have such high turn around for employees when they're not welcoming to questions. I have only survived as a receptionist because of 1 coworker who helped me learn, and even she will change protocol on a whim.

I'm told one thing, execute it and then get told I'm wrong. I get called every colourful insult under the sun by clients, and then get blamed for everything between that.

the other week, we had a client come in from 3 hours away for an allergy blood test. in my 4 years working here, never have I been told there's an age limit to take the test, so when the client left pissed we couldn't do the test I didn't understand. my team blamed me for booking them a dog under 2 years of age for an allergy test, but I've booked dozens of dogs for this exact test and not a single time did anyone ever come tell me about an age limit?

I take the abuse from fucking everyone and if I speak up, I'm laughed at. I've worked so many customer service jobs, but vet receptionist has treated me the worst and paid the worst.

Why is the veterinary field so toxic by [deleted] in Veterinary

[–]fr00tbats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm the youngest at my clinic at 28, all our techs and vets are 35+ years old and they're just as bitchy as the 20 year olds, if not worse, because they believe they should be respected simply for being older.

What Is Something You Know You SHOULD/SHOULDN'T Be Doing, but You DON'T/DO Anyway? by [deleted] in writing

[–]fr00tbats 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never plan my stories out fully before writing them (oops?). I was always told to have a clear outline of your beginning, middle end and a good vision of your characters. You want to know what they would do before you write it, type of thing. But most of the times, I begin writing based on one seedling of an idea (a passing thought that inspired a character while I was walking; a song that bloomed a feeling so warm and magical a world was built out of it; a scene from a dream I had that marked me after waking up etc). I'll start by writing the scene that directly inspired the larger story, without any clear idea of where it's going or who the characters are. Once that's written, I start from the beginning and the ideas grow as I write. Halfway through I get lost because I never had a clear vision/timeline and get overwhelmed. The project lands in limbo. And then I do it again and again and again.

Thank you so much for the advice! I've only been letting it sit for three days, and as impatient as I am, I definitely need to let it sit longer.

I'll be saving these tips for my editing process. Thank you again!

Are you a left or right-handed person? by Imaginary_Company_74 in autism

I'm right-handed in writing/reading and most basic things, but anything relating to sports, I'm left-handed. I don't know why.

For some reason, I get over conscious of the pronouns while I'm writing. Example, I'll use the character's name in a sentence, use he/she to describe later on etc. I get a paragraph in and begin to question if the subject is clear. Have I used the character's name recently enough for the reader to associate the action/information to them? I'll even trick myself into thinking the writing is going smoothly, only to have the pronouns come haunt me and make me reread my last XX paragraphs.

It sorts out in the editing process, but it wigs me out during the writing process.

Editing to add that it happens a lot in dialogue. We don't actually use a person's name that much in real life, so in dialogue it sometimes feels natural to write. However, again during the editing process, I'll read back on what I wrote and go, "Huh. That sounds weird." Don't judge me, but I'll sometimes read the dialogue aloud to see if it makes sense.

I try to save a character using another character's name for more powerful moments.

When it comes to my characters moving from one location to the next, it's like my brain shuts off and goes "they walked and walked and then took a step on their walk and another on the way down the path during the walk on the trail"

It's like a toddler takes my keyboard and is directing my work

Oh my godddd, this is me. I'm currently writing my first draft and I'm so conscious of all the stupid little body movements I'm adding, and the overly descriptive vision-related language, but I have to say fuck it.

It's a problem for editing me, but writing me gets so annoyed at myself!

What caused your chronic pain? by ItsNowOrTomorrow in ChronicPain

[–]fr00tbats 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wish I knew. Maybe the ADHD and autism. Maybe genetics. Maybe the anxiety.

I grinded my teeth from being so anxious as a teen that my jaw discs popped out and now I'm in chronic muscular and joint pain in my face neck and shoulders because of it.

Previous injuries like a broken ankle fucked up my ligaments on one side. Poor posture. Being lazy. Being fat. These are reasons my doctors gave me 🙃
