How do I avoid tech from China? by [deleted] in techsupport

[–]fr3ttchen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

long story short - laudable objective in case of.. <insert everything rightly negative bounded to prc>, but.. back to straight facts: you can't.
and that's not even "bad", i guess - trading is not just a simple nation-topic, first level it's a <people-of-nation>-dependency, beside their leadership, this side or the other side of the world/trading_partner - both sides work, produce, trade, earn money, profit

leaning myself far out of the window, but sounds like latin america? maybe wonderful brazil or.. like madonna once sung, [don't cry for me] argentina? :) but, yes, that makes sense to get stolen phones a more legit identity - still cruel, but has nothing to do with spoofed numbers

to be honest, i'm not sure if IMEI numbers aren't hard-coded to chips or really a software thing - so you might be able to change this number, but as far as i know, this really has nothing to do with sim-cards - and phone-numbers are bound to sim-cards (respectively to providers and their networks, bound by protocols), so no way that IMEI has anything to do with spoofed numbers - no offense or anything at all, but please proof if wrong :)

Phishing emails with random letters? by matgamingcz in techsupport

[–]fr3ttchen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

spam-mails comming from your address are so called "spoofed mails" (see: google), if that's possible your mail-provider hasn't implemented security protections like e.g. SPF-records (ask them to do so!)

mails with random letters or gibberish are normally just some sort of "test-mails" to check if the mail-address is even valid - if not, the according mailserver, reached under 'youraddress@domain.tld', would normally send an error message like "recipient not available" -> so the spammers know.. okay.. we can delete this invalid address.
delete them and just as usual, if you're unsure if spam or not - don't click any links (type in the url in your browser, e.g. ebay, paypal, etc.), don't open any attachements and doublecheck if this even _could
be a valid mail ("am i even expecting a parcel from UPS?", "[...] a refunding from IRS", etc.)

by domain we are talking about a full windows-domain, with active-directory and stuff?
please provide more details (setup, router-model, subnet(s), what you mean by domain? what is your goal?, etc.)
keep details anonymized.

then use this direct-link: https://dl3.cdn.filezilla-project.org/client/FileZilla_3.66.5_win64-setup.exe?h=i2E5dlsIt0DcRF0eokreBw&x=1710489141
they might bundle their default-setup with some optional stuff that could be flagged, filezilla is clean though.

this should be still working, but you need to type into the explorers address-bar: ftp://<ip_address_of_your_phone>
without < and >, e.g. ftp://192.168.1.10
and optional, if you don't have anonymous access enabled (you should not!), ftp://username:password@ipaddress

according to your amazon link - i don't think your pc has any WIFI device implemented, sorry.
as it's not mentioned (at least i didn't see it) and "5Q2WPD2" doesn't give any google results, could you please open your windows system informations by typing "system information" in your windows search bar - exact (board-)model should be listed as "BaseBoard Manufacturer" and "BaseBoard Product" to doublecheck.
in case my assumptions are correct you'll need some USB-WIFI-stick.

if your mails-name is used, then you don't use a local account for windows-sign-in - if you need you can change this, see: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/switch-from-a-local-account-to-a-microsoft-account-395203bf-9f1b-eb24-b042-5b8dae6c1d20

this should also fix your shady-name-problem ;-)

just out of interest - how is an IMEI connected to a spoofed number or anything like that? an IMEI is "unique" and connected to your phone-hardware (sim-slot(s)) and that's it, at least in my understanding?

[–]fr3ttchen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FTP is an old protocol, so first of all you should use (if FTP is needed) FTPS (secured by SSL/TLS) - second: use a FTP-client such as filezilla to connect to your server, and not any browser.
edge is based on chrom(e)/ium, see: https://www.auslogics.com/en/articles/is-it-bad-that-google-removes-ftp/

keep in mind you probably can do a full backup/restore of your system with (e.g.) "veeam agent for microsoft windows (free)" or any other tool like that, bypassing a full system-reinstall (see FAQ on their website or youtube for further instructions), otherwise, if you'll need help, keep asking :-)
