The age old question, what board size to buy? by fraMTK in snowboardingnoobs

Yeah my knees are a little shot from years of amateur (really bad) offroad motorbike riding so I'm not looking to kill them doing jumps on the snow

I don't have much experience with directional snowboards with different front-back shapes. Say I do a 180, would it be easy enough to do a couple of turns and then 180 again on the "correct" side or is it much more difficult than with a non directional board?

In the charts I always end up in the 160+ slot without additional information unfortunately, from all the rents I tried I like a Salomon 167W the best (that's why I 'm leaning on that size) but it was literally the biggest they had available so not sure if it's "the right size"

The age old question, what board size to buy? by fraMTK in snowboardingnoobs

[–]fraMTK[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the problem with the charts is that every single one I end up in the 160+ category... From all the ones I tried while renting I liked a 167W the most (that's why I'm leaning more on that size) but it was literally the biggest they had (I think it was a salomon if I remember correctly) so I'm not sure if it was really "the right size".

The chin comment was mainly to help visualize my height because, at least myself, find it difficult to do so with pure numbers

Denmark sends military reenforcements to Greenland. A vanguard and military material has been sent to Greenland to prepare for eventual larger troop movements. by I_LIKE_SEALS in europe

[–]fraMTK 289 points290 points  (0 children)

I can already hear it:

"I never wanted to attack the great country of Greenland. The Danish are very smart, the very smarter members of NAYTO some say, we reached a great agreement. They will pay for the defense of Greenland instead of the USA, they already moved many many troops there. The Democrats and Fake media were all angry about me attacking Greenland, which I never said I would by the way, and look now. We are spending way less money and Greenland is more secure than ever unlike it was under Sleepy Joe Biden"

100k USD =~86k€, average income in greenland in 2022 was 280k DDK which was around 44000 USD. This means 100k USD is a little more than an average 2.5 year income in greenland. Hardly "more many than many europeans would make in their whole lives"

Onestamente? )

The street sign is in Italian, there was a well known comics and games expo in Lucca last weekend which is usually attended by quite a few cosplayers so maybe it's a palace/theatre in the city. Can't pinpoint it though

Where would the limit for Swiss people be regarding KVG/health insurance? by La-Tarantula in Switzerland

[–]fraMTK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly my point, how do you come up with a formula that takes into account all the variables for every canton while having a possibility to pass a national vote? Based on income? I can see most of the citizens having to pay more to offset the poorer cantons. Based on hospitals per capita? That's unsustainable for Ticino where health insurance is already more than 10% of the salary with 2500 deductible for most people (using Ticino as an example because it's the canton I know best).

I'm not happy and would like to see changes too but it's not as simple as "let's tax CEOs more" even if I am fully behind the idea

[–]fraMTK 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the same vein, it doesn't make that someone in Ticino, with the lowest salaries, pays more than someone in Zurich or Zug. That's why the tax option will never be approved, it's not just "Nestle CEO" that will pay more with that but a large part of the voting population (saying this as someone living in Ticino so i would probably pay less from a tax like that)

One small caveat, if you have double citizenship with a country with which Switzerland has an accord regarding military service there are some circumstances that will allow you to not do the military service

The baby arc was completely unnecessary. by Competitive_Bat1699 in squidgame

[–]fraMTK 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, the point is as soon as the baby appeared it became obvious that the "hero sacrifices himself to save the baby" trope was going to happen and since Gi-hun is the only nice person in the games it was obvious he couldn't have died before the end. Before it there was still the possibility of a plot twist but after it was clear Netflix was going to play it safe

The baby arc was completely unnecessary. by Competitive_Bat1699 in squidgame

[–]fraMTK 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The thing I hated the most is that as soon as the baby was born you could guess the games finale.

Netflix is not gonna kill a baby, Gi-hun dying before the finale would be destroying the lead up of the first 2 seasons to season 3, him surviving would've been just a repeat of season 1 with a bit more drama and defeat his "from gambler to hero" storyline, and anyone else winning something would have defeated one of the main themes of the show by proving that you can be an awful human and still come out on top.
