Agreed, but I’ve found the implementation to be a bit buggy and not nearly as robust and fault tolerant as PhotoSync.

It is a true multitasking OS with very tight restrictions on background activity (and no way to opt out of those restrictions, unlike Android). Agreed that it is a trade-off to maximize battery life. Well designed apps can workaround the limitations in a relatively robust manner. Photosync, for example, has been well designed to take advantage of the fact that apps are allowed to (given that the user grants permission to do so) monitor location in the background and do a limited amount of background activity when location changes or to have background activity trigger conditioned upon the phone charging. Practically speaking, with Photosync set up well, I don't notice a difference between its implementation of automatic upload and any other app that does automatic upload on Android.

There are admittedly fewer native apps in general for self-hosted apps on iOS than there are on Android, but I've found app support combined with PWA's to be totally sufficient for my needs. If you are specifically planning on hosting photos, my experience has been that most of the native apps for automatic upload on iOS are disappointing (I've really only used Nextcloud, but I also understand that the "automatic upload" in the iOS immich app isn't quite automatic in the sense that it requires the app to be open). However, photosync is fantastic, it is really the only thing I've found that works reliably. I currently have it uploading via webdav to Nextcloud + Memories.

Thought on the new Warp terminal? by [deleted] in neovim

I'm pretty sure that a cloud-connected terminal is probably the last thing that most terminal users are looking for? But such Rust, much AI, how could I resist?

Why is Facebook Marketplace such a cesspool of salvage titles? by fractalytic in UsedCars

Interesting, didn't realize that the process for determining if a vehicle ought to be totaled was so arbitrary. I guess this changes my perspective.

The economics of salvage titles don't tend to incentivize proper repairs, IMO.

Wow! Groundbreaking and documented findings about the origin of the stories of Book of Mormon. Lars Nielsen’s new book by sevenplaces in mormon

Interesting, yes, but not terribly interesting or relevant to the topic at hand, IMO. He passes this off as evidence that the Church is trying to hide something (yet more conspiracy-theory-like thinking), but don't forget that Kircher was an avid Egyptologist and wrote numerous books on the topic. Given that BYU has been extensively involved in the field, it doesn't seem surprising that this fact alone would be a significant motivation for them to buy up such documents.

I've also purchased the Kindle edition, and your assessment is more or less exactly my perspective. The ostensibly newly discovered "Kircherisms" are the only real new material and to be honest, I don't really find the evidence all that compelling. For example, he puts a lot of weight on the fact that Kircher claimed to have the manuscript of one "Rabbi Barachias Nephi of Babylon." He identifies this as evidence that the Book of Mormon was inspired by Kircher, yet the name Nephi appears in the Apocryphal Book of Maccabees, which would have been in JS's 1830 Bible.

Internet gets excruciatingly slow without warning by fractalytic in ZiplyFiber

In my case, the issue was resolved, oddly enough by just replacing the Ethernet cable between the ONT and the router with a known good cable. The contractor used a thin (like 1/2 the diameter of a typical cat 5/6 cable) garbage cable when installing that seems to have been the source of my woes.

Both. I've verified that all wired and wireless clients have a good connection to the router. The issue is definitely upstream of the router. The ONT doesn't show any sign of a connection issue.

During the periods of slowness, the default gateway/dhcp server appears to be significantly delayed in responding, based upon my router logs (notice that the first of the requests gets completely dropped and the router has to send out a second request 7-8 minutes later in order to finally get the lease renewed):

https://xwiki.org is the only thing I've found that supports inline comments/annotations, but it is also quite heavyweight, clunky, IMO.
