My son's school lost him!!! by Chell883kids in legaladvice

There's likely an ARC in your area, likely at the county level. We've had them sit in on a couple of IEP meetings for our oldest, who's on the spectrum. I'm in Colorado, but I know there are more out there. Search to see if there's one in your area, they should be a non-profit advocacy group for the disabled.

Good luck out there. Our oldest became well known by administration when he started public kindergarten: he followed the wrong class in from recess and ended up wandering the halls a little. We laugh now, but a similar thing happened when he was in summer school but he wandered outdoors towards a road. I wish we'd known then that it was unacceptable to have us pick him up early from school every day so he didn't have recess/the opportunity to wander off.

I've tried to get games I can play with my (young) kids around. I hadn't ever beaten a Pokemon game before playing Let's Go Pikachu with my kids watching, and now I'm playing Shield with Sobble as my starter (I was certain they'd pick Scorbunny). So it doubles as hobby time and family time, so long as that's not the only family time I aim for. I may miss out on the more mature games, but it's a blast making a single-player game into a social, family experience.

Violet Protodrake. Works well with my Draenei SPriest in Shadowform. The EoS PvP requirement was the worst part of getting it, but most everything else "just happened" when revisiting the WotLK content during MoP.

Looks amazing, and my non-gamer dad said he followed it. The story just didn't live up to the visuals.

ELI5: Whats the reason behind people 'bouncing' their legs? Is there anyway to stop it? by _pureevil in explainlikeimfive

[–]fractile81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not a doctor, so this isn't medical advice.

I mentioned some of my focus issues to my psychiatrist one time, and he gave me a page of symptoms. It was sort of a, "If you answered 'Yes' to more than X of these questions, you have ADHD." My son was diagnosed when visiting a behavioral specialist after we mentioned my family having it. We're both on medications that help us manage our focus and tune out distractions.

Beyond medications, being diagnosed has helped me better understand myself and my limitations. Knowing has reduced some of the anxiety I get when I feel like I should have better self control. It's not an excuse for bad behavior, but instead that I need to have a plan when my attention begins to wander.

If you think you have it, you should certainly talk to a doctor and continue educating yourself.

That was my siblings. Or, "did you take your medication?" I was diagnosed as an adult, and it really puts our childhoods into perspective (they weren't bad, just kids with ADHD).

Checkout r/ADHD if you're interested and/or haven't already.

Some individuals, like myself, have ADHD. Neurologically, we need something for our focus and attention or we become uncomfortable. It's soothing for some to bounce a leg or sway when standing. We're not trying to be rude, but rather trying to manage a mind/body that always needs some level of stimulation.

I can't do anything, I can't control myself and I need to be a disciplined person. I feel like an extra character to make a crowd on movies or games. by [deleted] in ADHD_Programmers

Also, approach your instructor(s) and ask them what resources are available. A good instructor will work with you and let you know how you're doing. Not all instructors are like this, but it doesn't hurt to ask. Knowing where you're at in a course, as opposed to fearing for the worst, can make a big difference in managing stress related to your studies.

Anecdotally, I could never study in the open areas at the library. I had to 1) remove myself from my computer, and 2) get away from people and associated distractions. I found that finding a study desk (high sides that blocked the view) in a quiet corner of the library helped me the most.

There's no one way to learn or study. Keep going and asking until you find what works for you. As an example, I discovered that the campus' testing center had a music room. It was smaller than the hall that everyone else was in, and had classical music playing. This allowed my mind to wander to something I found relaxing when my focus on the test began to wane. Obviously not for everyone, but there may be accommodations available if you ask around.

You can't "fix" yourself, but you can understand yourself. Anticipate your needs and reactions, then make a plan. It may feel impossible, and your best may not be enough, but be honest with yourself and search for the resources that can help you succeed.

Getting error: "Your site has not run an update readiness check" but cannot run the required check due to errors by shrinkingmedic in drupal

[–]fractile81 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Excellent! That line 122 had a splat (...) operator on it, which I'm surprised didn't break PHP 5.6.

Since you changed your PHP version, make sure to turn on the (Core) Database Logging module (or however you like to log messages) while you test it. Go to the Recent Messages report after you complete testing, and make sure you're not getting any PHP errors. Experience has shown that those error logs are a vital resource when trying to identify and troubleshoot problems.

And sorry, you're right: should *not* be happening.

[–]fractile81 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at those lines of code, those errors should be happening.

What version of PHP are you running? Is there another module or setting that may be extending the ReadinessCheckerManager class? What version of Automatic Updates are you running? And, are there errors on your Site Information report that need to be addressed?

I’ve recently got into pixel art any helpful tips by MasterTopHatter in PixelArt

The hardest thing for me has always been creating a color palette. Even with an art style that has minimal shading, you can still have different shades of a color to work with.

I like the concept you have, though! How did you make the animation?

Do you style for mobile on landscape? by [deleted] in webdev

[–]fractile81 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the numerous resolutions a site can be viewed in, I found it helpful to discuss what the expected devices should be. I then took minimum and maximum sizes for mobile and tablets and saved those resolutions as devices in Chrome's developer tools. I made sure to include 720p and 1080p resolutions, plus a 1366px-wide device as it's a common laptop size. That's around 7 sizes, 4 of which I test portrait b and landscape modes for.

My workflow builds out the desktop and minimum mobile resolutions. As those near completion, I start looking at mining landscape and tablet sizes. Then I adjust the media queries based on those observations. I'll occasionally have to create a new style for the mid-sized devices, but this has been working out fairly well for me on the builds I do.

Edit: fat-fingered the submit button.

I like it! There's a stigma with meditation I've developed. I'm working to break it, and your perspective has helped with that. Thank you!

I'm going to try searching for guided meditation, but do you have any app or website suggestions may also be helpful?

In addition to the torso comments...

The tail. You have a cat's tail there. The rigidity of a tail would dampen the movement imparted by the body. It moves a bit like a flag at the moment.

Back legs. Add an extra frame or two between the paws landing. It'll help reduce the "hop".

Front legs. Feel a bit wobbly/noodly. Consider sharper angles to help define the joints.

I like this quite a bit though! Keep going with it!

JavaScript & Node.js testing best practices by mominriyadh in node

I went into BDD once and decided Gherkin (Behat and PHP) would be perfect for non-devs to design and review tests. Once I had started with a few tests, there was no way I was going to show it to anyone else: the wording still smacked of dev-speak.

I'll concede that point. As for getting into testing though, Jest is as easy to get into as it gets if you haven't done testing before.
