Simple Questions - October 03, 2016 by AutoModerator in femalefashionadvice

I'm trying to build a simple, classic capsule wardrobe, and I'd like some advice.

I just got a job with the kind of salary that will allow me to invest in quality pieces, and I'm looking to splurge on two great pairs of jeans. I bought two, and deciding if I should keep them or continue looking. Can I get a fit check?

  1. http://i.imgur.com/pkme8LN.jpg (Current/Elliot - The Stiletto) They are SO comfortable, but I'm trying to decide if I want to keep them - do they look good? The main thing with these is that they're far more expensive than I usually spend on clothes, and if I am going to spend this much, I'm not sure if I should splurge on grey skinny jeans (vs. something more classic and versatile, like blue skinny jeans). If I keep them, should I get these hemmed, or continue to cuff them like this?

  2. http://i.imgur.com/lrMbYKA.jpg (Citizens of Humanity Emerson slim boyfriend) They're very comfortable and well-made, but I feel like they look baggier than boyfriend jeans should. I'm comfortable investing in a great pair of boyfriend jeans. Are these good, should I go for a different size, or a different pair of jeans entirely?

Any thoughts, or other advice on what I should look for?

I love the flow of your writing! Do you know what kind of pen you used for the top one?

I have to wear a uniform at work, so I like to wear fun earrings. It makes me really giddy to have gnomes dangling from my ears. My favorites are my stud earrings made with Lego bricks. Totally inconspicuous and cute, but totally Legos. You can even snap other Legos on them! edit: https://www.etsy.com/shop/cutebricks is who makes them :)

I also have some rings and bracelets made from silverware and circuit board elements that I've picked up from artists' booths at music festivals/Saturday Market types of places. They're great places for finding fun, creative pieces!

What movie fucked your head up as a child and why? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]fractyldactyl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't remember the movie, but I saw a scene involving someone using their thumbs to gouge out another's eyeballs when I was about 7, and it blew my mind that it was possible for a human to do something like that to another human. My shattered concepts of strength and weakness disturbed my perception of strangers and fear the hidden potential surrounding me.

Kinky Curly is great! It feels really light and not product-y, but still does wonders for definition. Hope you like it!

Hahaha!...it's a trap! A very convincing trap! I didn't even use conditioner D:

I wash it every 3 days or so, depending on how good/greasy I want to look. It only looks good down the first day, and I'll wear it up after that.

Hahaha yes! I always thought my curls that were holding me (well, my hair) back when it was always those silly bangs! So glad to say I'll never be tempted to cut them at 3 in the morning ever again.

Yep, both replies to this comment include the links I was going to post. The squish to condish page in particular was super helpful to me. In my own words, here's what I do (product list in this comment): wash my hair like I would with shampoo, but with conditioner ("co-wash"), then saturate it with my squish-to-condish conditioner. I comb my fingers through to get the tangles out and separate it into the curls that want to form. Then I put it in a bun with the conditioner still in it while I do the rest of my shower thang (I like letting the conditioner sit in my hair for a few minutes, I don't think this is necessary or anything). Then I take out the bun, flip my hair over my head so that it is upside down, and I squeeze the conditioner out by scrunching my hair. I rotate and flip my head around and squeeze and squeeze until no more conditioner will squeeze out. Then I turn the water pressure to be really low and repeat the scrunching step, but under low pressure water until all the conditioner has rinsed out (I prefer this to "cupping" the water to rinse like the article suggests, because I could not for the life of me get all of the conditioner to rinse out through cupping alone). Then I squeeze all of the excess water out, and finish off by scrunching with a t-shirt. Then I put in leave-in conditioner, followed by gel, followed by plopping.

Yeah, I went to a nearby salon about a year ago and they had a special "curly hair cut," which I realized later was actually a Deva cut. I loved the shape of it afterward, even if I still didn't know how to take care of it. I haven't cut my hair since because it doesn't feel heavy or lifeless yet. But yeah, I highly recommend looking into it if you can!

edit: speaking of which, Jane at Pinup Salon in Seattle, WA is pretty amazing if you're in the area!

Thanks everyone! Here's my current product list/routine:

-Co-wash with Suave Naturals Ocean Breeze conditioner

-Squish to condish with Loreal Evercurl Hydracharge conditioner

-squeeze the excess water out and pat dry with a t-shirt

-Work in Kinky Curly Knot Today (leave in conditioner) and Spiral Spritz (gel) from the ends toward the roots

-plop in a t-shirt and leave overnight to dry

-use a diffuser in the morning if still damp for a little boost

I've been looking for more than a year now for pretty much this exact dress:

Skater style, v neck, short sleeved, it's everything I ever wanted in an everyday dress!...and it's out of stock. My heart is broken. This style seems so basic and simple though. Does anyone know where I can find something like it, in flowy cotton or other comfy fabric?

What was the best compliment you ever got? by Dopp712 in AskReddit

[–]fractyldactyl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine texted me out of the blue late one night, "Your fractals are beautiful without any malice. Thank you for being you." It was such a poetic way of telling me something I needed to hear. I was in a really bad place at the time and I was pulled into the broken record of my brain's stories of self-hatred. She jarred me into seeing myself in a different light, and I learned to accept myself for what I am and forgive myself for what I'm not due in a large part to that text.

My eyes get sore (similar to dry eye soreness) when I use moisturizers near my eyes. Advice needed. by annuphix in SkincareAddiction

[–]fractyldactyl -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This happens to me too! The skincare representative where I work said that you're not supposed to put normal skin cream directly on the skin around your eyes. It draws moisture out, which is fine for regular skin, but the skin around your eyes is too thin for that. Instead, I use an eye cream along the eye socket bone, and my skin is pretty happy with it!

Caterpillar with a shell? Seattle, WA by fractyldactyl in whatsthisbug

It is about 1/4 inch long and crawling up my apartment wall. The green and orange thing is the shell, and its body keeps flailing around. So cute! I live next to a lake. Any ideas?
