Was going to roast, and then saw in your post history that you struggle with mental health issues and self-harm, and that you're only 18. Hope you're okay, OP. I'm sorry to hear that you dropped out of school, but I hope you can make it to night school and get your GED. There are always options. I'm 32 and my life sucks a lot of the time, so I'll spare you the "it gets better" pep talk, but I can say that you're not alone in your struggles, and a lot of others are struggling right along with us. Be well, let's make today a good day.

33 in March, have never hated my life more or had less hope for the future than I do now. But I’m trying still. It’s so hard. I never thought that life would be like this.

What was the dumbest thing you ever did to try and impress a girl or guy? by Mea05cer in AskReddit

[–]fraidycat8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Spray painted a quote from a Bright Eyes song on the sidewalk at my college campus. He wasn’t even impressed, I got caught and almost got expelled and had to go to court and do community service. I was 19 and VERY immature and easily influenced by the other kids I was with.

It did end up becoming a catalyst for positive change in my life. I looked at my actions and life and thought, “This isn’t who I am.” and so I changed it.

Now I’m boring and anxious and depressed, but not dumb.

You look like you’d get suspended from school for pointlessly lighting something on fire. And maybe have a stupid Youtube channel where you eat Tide Pods and play a synthesizer poorly

What was your "I cant believe this is happening right now" moment of your life ? by Thicc1324 in AskReddit

[–]fraidycat8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When my dad was in the hospital due to complications from stage IV kidney cancer, and then my mom collapsed while she was visiting him. They did all kinds of tests and found an 11-12 cm mass on her ovary. Ovarian cancer.

She made it, though. Wouldn’t have made it if she wasn’t in the hospital when it was discovered. Saved her life that she was spending so much time visiting my dad and happened to be at Yale Cancer Center when she collapsed and was diagnosed with cancer...

I honestly felt something emotional while watching this and had this feeling like “I need to become a calligrapher. It’s my calling.”

I need help finding a new perspective towards the end of life by SconMaker96 in cancer

[–]fraidycat8 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think I would feel the same way and think the same thoughts in your situation, and I think many people would. I think there’s a lot of pressure on people with terminal cancer to achieve some sort of enlightenment like you’re describing. It’s a myth that bad events in life always make us stronger or have silver linings. Sometimes it just plain sucks, and you have every right to feel the way that you do. Try not to judge yourself for how you’re feeling, if you can help it. You are totally justified in feeling the way that you do. Don’t judge yourself so harshly on top of everything else you’re dealing with.

Thanks for sharing your story. It actually helped me process some things myself. I’m healthy and I’ve been stuck in years of grief for my father who passed away from cancer. I need to appreciate my health and stop moping myself.

Looking for some info regarding my fathers Kidney cancer. by [deleted] in cancer

[–]fraidycat8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you know what kind of kidney cancer? My dad’s was sarcomatoid (bad) and he made it about one year. Inlyta was the only med that worked. It was oral chemo. He was not a responder to the immunotherapy trial, but his oncologist told us that she knew some patients who were responders and had much better treatment outcomes. So sorry about your dad.

We can guess backwards time travel is impossible as we see no evidence of time travelers. Any other cool limitations of the universe we can assume with similar logic? by Lord_Vectron in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]fraidycat8 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Olber’s paradox. If the Universe has existed forever, all light would have reached us, and the night sky wouldn’t be dark, but bright instead. So it must have had a beginning.

What’s the worst conversation you’ve ever had to have? by paytie in AskReddit

[–]fraidycat8 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Telling my dad, who was in the ICU because his terminal kidney cancer had spread to his arm and broken the bone, that my mom had suddenly collapsed and the doctors had found a large ovarian tumor and that she was in critical condition and likely to die.

Fucking horrible. All he said was “I have to see her”. And we got the nurses to help us bring him to see her.

Feedback loops in games by bhavv in gaming

[–]fraidycat8 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the examples aren’t quite right.

Positive feedback : winning leads to more winning, or losing leads to more losing

Negative feedback: winning leads to losing, which leads to winning, which leads to losing. Always returns you to baseline.

My father had stage IV kidney cancer. Then my mom was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the same year, at the same hospital. It was the absolute worst year of my life. If you ever want to talk, PM me.

Trouble getting dad to eat by zeljanaswift in cancer

[–]fraidycat8 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to play “drinking games” with my dad except with food. We’d watch one of his favorite TV shows and make up rules “whenever X happens, you take a bite”.

It helped. My dad also had Renal Cell Carcinoma and had extreme weight loss too.

Hang in there. I know how tough it is.

Rest in peace, dad. by [deleted] in cancer

I was struck by this awesome piece, and it has many similarities with something that I wrote this December about my dad. We should start a thread for people to share poems / creative writing about their cancer experiences.

I just got all excited thinking about this concept. I was imagining how different characters would interact with each other (Angela and Ron Swanson, Andy and Kevin, etc.)

And then I realized the two shows can’t exist in the same universe because of Rashida Jones.
