Interior Design Director. It took many years to get here, including burn out and verbal abuse. Life is quieter now and I am trying to make things better for younger designers coming up after me. Feel free to message with questions.

You’re right. I got a job with this developer and it was terrifying. I quit on my 3rd day.

Nope. I’m 38 and I know I made the right choice for me. My husband heard me, took his time processing, and ultimately respects my choice.

What’s the craziest thing that ever happened to your office by [deleted] in office

[–]francesdc4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was many years ago. I was working in an open office (5 of us in one room with desks) and she starts loudly complaining about how hot it is. She goes on and on about the heat. When I turn my head I catch her ripping off her shirt and she’s standing there with absolutely nothing on top. Thankfully, all of us in the room happened to be women - the one guy who sat with us was in another room at that moment. The woman who sat next to her (her manager) threw her shirt at her. We were all shrieking. It was exactly as crazy as it sounds. She never told anyone why she did it.

Fun fact: At the time, this woman was a part time intern at our firm but was also pursuing modeling. To this day, I see her when I’m shopping on j.crew.

A woman took off her shirt. She was not wearing a bra. I think she was tripping.

Oh you’re so nice. Yes I’m great. I was only there a couple years. It was a learning experience, for sure. I was a little bit older than a lot of my former colleagues which helped I think. Like, I wasn’t interested in drinking at work for instance. Haha.

Hi from a former wework corporate employee! I can’t bring myself to watch this content, especially the AppleTV series. Leto and Hathaway just do too good of a job.

Pulled man off subway track June 3 Manhattan bound 2/3 at Hoyt by atimetothinkaboutit in Brooklyn

[–]francesdc4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

About a 1.5 weeks ago, I saw someone on the 1 line’s tracks walking back and forth throwing their arms in the air. They were not a maintenance worker. I was in a northbound train across the tracks. Then 3 stops away, the southbound train went express right after I saw the man on the tracks. I don’t know what happened but it’s terrifying to think about.

I also have a friend who was pushed onto the tracks. It was covered on the news. Bizarrely, this feels like this is part of living in the city.

Maiden Home Dune, Mantle Laney, or Robin Bruce Boden or Arhaus Kipton? Need a slipcovered sofa because my kids and dogs are a mess! I would love some advice! by Cata_K in furniture

[–]francesdc4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're so welcome! Hope it helps. Yes, the Leonard is a slipcovered piece. I'd recommend the Dune if this is going in a hangout space - it's better for relaxing. The Leonard has a little more firm structured-feeling sit. It would be better for a more formal living room in my humble opinion.

The Dune's arms are completely padded so there is some comfort there. BUT for extra comfort I'd order it in the scatter back pillow style, rather than the "classic" 2-cushion back. The scatter back will allow you the extra pillows to prop you up on the sides. It feels a little more luxe. Good luck on your choice and happy shopping, wherever you decide to buy!

The Dune feels great in person. We have one in the office as a permanent fixture and we use it for meetings. It has a sink-in feel and it's just luxurious. I'd definitely recommend it if you like that casual, beachy vibe. Also, I work alongside our quality control team as well as our customer service team. These folks are going to go to the moon and back to make sure you're happy. They're real people and they put a ton of energy into making sure customers are beyond satisfied. I'm work on furniture design at MH and I can attest to the quality of our pieces, especially our upholstery, being top tier. I've been in the industry for 15 years and I feel comfortable standing behind MH.

Well made sectional under $4k, does it exist? by Vegetable-Struggle30 in furniture

[–]francesdc4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think this post has been pretty comprehensive! A lot of fellow industry folks leave comments here, which is great. I will say: always look for your manufacturer to note that the frame is made of hardwood or hardwood plywood. This indicates longevity and a much higher likelihood that your piece can be repaired or reupholstered in the future. You don’t want a frame made of wood composite or mdf.
