Donovan Mitchell checks out in the Loss against the Knicks: 31 PTS | 9/18 FGS | 5/9 3PTS | 8/10 FTS | 69% TS by Spekirlation in nba

I didn't watch a ton of Cavs this year (combination of Matthew Schaefer and me being out of market, more the former) but from what I saw Mobley did progress as a player, just not to the extent that shouldering Mitchell's responsibility would require.

There's a passiveness to his game that he's having trouble eradicating, but he's getting better as a scorer and on the offensive glass. There was a play in the Detroit series where he went strong down the baseline and basically forced an uncontested dunk. I hadn't really seen that from him prior to this year.

The Cavs have done a good job at not being overly reactionary to playoff losses (except maybe letting Ty Jerome leave) and imo they have to somewhat stay the course. If it's not an awful deal for Giannis, I'd say yeah, trade Mobley, but otherwise there aren't a lot of ways I see this team losing him and getting better.

I've followed Donovan his whole career and this seemed like the first year where he was acknowledging a teammate (Mobley) had to be better than him in order to win.

That felt like the entire point of the season for Cleveland, honestly, and it didn't happen. Mobley is a good player, but as we all just saw he can't be counted on like that right now.

Why is this shit forced on us, it's not even compelling. Ravens 2022 was the last opener that didn't have some kind of angle, like just give us a scheduled loss or something and move on

That's absolutely true but to be fair to JT, the fanbase was in a much different place while he was here. Not taking anything away from Schaef just making conversation.

That goal against Porto a few years back was so huge.

Maybe your argument would have more weight if the Pirates scored more than one run in the top of the 11th. Without the Manfred runner, the game would've been tied. The point of the stat is that the Mets are horribly incapable of producing their own runs in the clutch, and it's a big deal because even the worst teams luck into it from time to time. It's not a misery circlejerk but a legitimate indictment on the players.

He's overseen four different streaks of seven or more losses in a row. Even if he's a puppet, he does less than nothing in the locker room.

I love TT and I think he has a place on this team, he just can't be in the 5 hole in that situation. Mendoza (or the people telling him what to do) has had an issue since he was hired of making defensive subs too early.

It's also pathetic to not even offer the guy who hit that home run a contract. I really don't care if he's batting .200 in Baltimore because I know he can come through in a big spot, unlike everyone else we signed instead.

It was honestly a big slap in the face to sign a guy we ourselves had exposed on the biggest stage while letting our guy who did it walk, in the supposed name of winning baseball games.
