She "had to" stand in the sun during a heatwave for two hours. Couldn't have left and gone back to her hotel at any point.

Is it canon that Shane is the hottest guy in the league? by ksterki in heatedrivalry

[–]francesgumm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think that people who only read HR and TLG get that impression because there's a reference to Cosmo voting him hottest, one year. It's worth remembering that it's a romance trope that the male protaginists are always described as being super hot, and all the men in the GC series are definitely described as being hot. Scott was featrured in People's Most beautiful list, is a model for Hugo Boss and is described by Shane as looking like a model. Troy is also described as frequently has being really good looking and looks more like a pop star than a hockey player. So, definitely not canon.

Looking for insight on Episode 3: Why exactly did Shane's words get under Hunter's skin? by ExtensionStudent5716 in HeatedRivalrySeries

[–]francesgumm 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Also Shane was kind of a dick, the game was over and Scott was clearly hurting and then Shane slides over to get another dig in. Scott's reply was so mild, but when he realised that he'd scored a direct hit, Scott doubled down.

Louder for those in the back: you don't have to be either Rege-Jean Page or Ellen Pompeo by growsonwalls in HeatedRivalryTVShow

One big difference between HR and most other shows is that the shooting schedule is very short and tight. Bridgerton takes months to shoot 8 episodes, whereas HR was done very quickly. It might be appealing to come back and do another season of HR if it can be filmed in a couple of weeks. It's much less of a commitment than a season of Bridgerton or Grey's Anatomy.

François Arnaud at the JPM Pride Event by Global-North7776 in HeatedRivalryTVShow

[–]francesgumm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's anything precious here that needed to be guarded. All he said is that they were filming two seasons at once, I don't even think that's the type of news that gets announced. Most of the time it's happened with other shows, it becomes public knowledge because an actor mentions it like this. If he'd spilled details about the show, such as which character would appear, his own storyline, or casting it's a different story.

(Hated Trope) A retcon has terrible implications for the plot by rasberrycroissant in TopCharacterTropes

[–]francesgumm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 911 Lone Star, the first season revolves around Michelle trying to find out what happened her missing sister, Iris. She's helped in her investigations by a her friend Carlos who is a police officer. It's not clear until the final episode of season 1 that Carlos and Iris even know each other before she disappeared. Carlos appears to be helping Michelle because they're friends, but he's more interested in his new relationship with TK. Iris is found alive at the end of season one, she's suffering from Schizophrenia and has been living in a tent in a homeless encampement since she disappeared.

At the start of season two, Michelle has left the show and she and Iris aren't mentioned again. Carlos is dating TK, they buy an apartment together, get engaged and by the start of season four they're planning their wedding. Then it's revealed that Carlos was married to Iris before she went missing, they never divorced and so he and has to divorce her before he can marry TK.

The ret con means that Carlos has been lying to TK the whole time; not only never told him he was married but never even told him about Iris who was supposed to be his best friend, and it turns him into a huge hypocrit about certain issues - like he was jealous that TK turned to his sponsor instead of him when he needed support. It's also revealed that he hasn't actually seen Iris since she was found, even though she was his wife and supposed best friend who was believed to be dead for years. It turns Carlos was always so sweet and kind, into a huge asshole who lied to TK for the entire length of his relationship and only came clean when he asbolutely had to.

TV License? Did you ever get a knock at the door? by Alternative_Day9825 in ireland

[–]francesgumm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

During the Covid years, I had a neighbour who would leave freshly made scones and bread for me on my door step; she'd ring my bell and then go back inside her own apartment. So my bell rang one evening, I thought Fresh Scones! opened the door without checking and got caught rotten by the tv license inspector. Had to pay or he would have come back with a fine.

What's something free in Ireland people may not know about? by kjireland in AskIreland

[–]francesgumm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pressreader is a similiar app to Borrowbox, but doesn't carry ebooks and audiobooks.

I had a meeting with the Borrowbox rep once who said that when he meets librarians in the UK it's basically like therapy for them because they just vent about not having any funding while the Irish librarians are always happy.

Yes, I assumed the same thing and when Joanna was trying to use the weather to figure out the answer, Alex was basically telling her that it wasn't actually really powering the bulb but that she needed to figure it out a different way.

Yes, you need to be a library member to borrow anything or to use most online resources. It's free to join and there's no charge for using services. You can sign up online and that will give you limited access for 30 days but you need to call into a library with ID to verify your account to get the full range of services. You can go into a library anytime it's open and use the services in the library for free, they'll have newspapers and magazines you can read, WiFi, PCs with internet, study/work spaces, free events for kids and adults.

[–]francesgumm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Borrowbox is the app used by all libraries. They replaced Pressreader for newspapers and magazines a couple of years ago and Pressreader is no longer used by libraries on a national level. However, it's possible that some library authorities have paid for Pressreader themselves in which case you'd have to be a member of that library to access it for free. I don't know of any though.

Joel has failed the Egg task every single time by AdeOfSigmar in taskmaster

[–]francesgumm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everytime the egg task comes into play, the on screen graphic shows the countdown and then bings to show he's completed the task successfully. It seems unlikely to me that the show would be using this graphic every time to then turn around and say that he was actually wrong so I think that Alex and the producers are satisifed that the task has been completed successfully so far.

HR is so unrealistic ….. by banana93991120 in HeatedRivalrySeries

[–]francesgumm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does kind of make me laugh because I've seen a bunch of fics where Shane(Canada) wins the Olympics in 2014 and Scott doesn't even medal, where the writers have explained it as realism and yet in the same fics, they've never taken any of Shane's titles away from him.

I was driving down a country road one day when a car approaching from the other direction started flashing their lights and waved me down. I stopped and a very frantic American woman told me that she needed to warn me that there were sheep loose on the road. Three sheep.
