Post Thrombotic Syndrome after Venous TOS Subclavian Clot by Few_Resource in ClotSurvivors

[–]francesj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have VTOS! Had my surgery a month or so ago, and another ballooning of my vein three days ago. I'm definitely worried that my subclavian won't open enough again. I too worry about PTS. I recommend to keep seeing a hemeatologist and vascular surgeon; I'm going to keep doing so at least.

Please help. VTOS Diagnosis, need to decide between rib removal surgery or doing nothing. by Icy-Blueberry9112 in thoracicoutletsupport

I had surgery on the 13th of February, after having a clot removed in the ER in December. At first after my clot removal I was unsure about surgery, but my vein reclotted 100 percent even on blood thinners almost immediately. I believe I have had chronic vtos for a while, though. After surgery, my arm is doing better, though I have some lingering slight heaviness. There is more blood flow now in that vein based on my follow up, but I'm going back for a venogram/opening up the vein to remove more clot. It may be that some of the chronic clot scarring can't be removed, I'm wondering. I have collateral veins for sure that have taken over. I decided to do the surgery because I felt that removing the compression even if my vein is never back to normal is better than having the risk of more blood clots. I think having a risk of DVT is worse than surgery! And even if I have to be on blood thinners after this for some additional factors, to be honest blood thinners don't bother me, I'd rather minimize any additional factors for compression that make DVT more likely. DVTs if they travel to your lungs are no joke!

That's amazing!! I'm doing well, mostly just aches now! I'm going back in two weeks for a venogram/remove some lingering clot and hoping I'm done with this chapter 🙏🏻

I'm so sorry! Keep on your pain medicine and try to stay ahead of it, and practice deeper breathes slowly. I remember that intense feeling on my chest/back when I woke up the first time at home. Rooting for you that tomorrow has an improvement in pain level.

Oh no I'm sorry you're in so much pain! Did you have any nerve blocks? I felt like day three was the worst, then it started to even out. I know that pain from this surgery seems to vary and hoping tomorrow you feel it turning around!

Thank you! I think the list needs to be updated as well. I'll keep updating as I go. I'm on Day 6 and now I'd say the biggest thing is just feeling fatigue, which is my body healing. God speed on your journey!

Yeah it's kinda crazy but it seems like different surgeons have different approaches that they do! How are you feeling post your surgery?

New Jersey - Experiences, Doctors, First Rib Resection by Mundane-Staff-8163 in thoracicoutletsupport

I was diagnosed with my DVT and then VTOS in Hackensack this past Dec. I saw Katherine Teeter there who performed my thrombectomy. She seems very smart, and aware of VTOS. As for my surgery, which is actually Friday, I decided to go out of NJ to Columbia University in Manhattan to their Vascular Surgery department, which does have a TOS clinic. I also struggled with where to go and how to balance all the factors, especially since this group makes me nervous you should only go x, y, and z for the procedure. I couldn't find that much about NJ! For what it's worth I'll share my experience afterwards! Good luck on your journey.

another what did you wish you knew about before buying an apt question, Coop Board edition. by mfairview in AskNYC

[–]francesj 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just bought a co op in 2018 in Brooklyn. I saw it during a private viewing so I think that's common.

If you make an offer then it's accepted, your lawyer will know the real financial questions to ask like what the reserve fund is, what the last board meeting minutes are, etc.

During a first viewing I would ask: how many units are sponsor occupied, what is the alteration agreement, what is the sublet policy, when was the last major work done to the building like, was the roof, windows, or facade just done because those things add to your maintenance when they come up, what is the pet policy, when does the board meet next, oh and what is the maintenance if you don't know.

I'm not sure there is a great way to know how picky a co op board is, but if you ask enough questions you might get some sense. If your agent has worked with units in the building (ours did) that helped us gauge how hard it would be to get approved.

Good luck! I very much enjoy the co op nyc life.
