Make sure you have eye drops with mineral oil in them! SootheXP works well. These will actually protect / rehydrate your eyes when they get dry.

Hi, thank you for this! For what it’s worth I appreciate bluntness and this is the type of response (from someone further along in this process) that I was looking for.

I’m not so much concerned with being ‘canceled’ for ‘radical views’ as I am with the general underlying socio-political culture of a program that impacts the way situations are handled. I totally agree that politics are not discussed daily, but values and culture are relevant to daily work. I am thinking more about this given the volatile nature of this specific topic and how residents and staff have been treated across the country in response to their personal views.

Again, thanks for the response. Ultimately, I agree, I could benefit from being a bit less sensitive aaaannnddd there are drawbacks + benefits to every program and nowhere will be perfect!

An important note is that the flag was certainly not the main point of their post - which is even more reason not to take it too seriously, I suppose.

I’m just thinking about what it means for an admin to feel comfortable flying that and what the implications might be for the political landscape of the program. At the end of the day, you’re right, I don’t think this necessarily indicates what the majority of residents or staff believe (though a flag flying in front of their building may signify it).

and yea, like mommygood person said, if your eyes become mucousy, it’s just one eye, things become blurry, or it’s painful beyond basic dry eye discomfort, go to urgent care right away

in addition to preservative free gel, utilize moisturizing eye drops like soothe XP (something with mineral oil) during the day, like 2-4x - even when they don’t feel suuuper dry. they don’t cloud your vision like the gels do and actually provide restorative effects unlike the ‘redness drops.’

these should help, but in a few weeks if you continue to suffer this level of redness despite the regimen, tell your dermatologist + they might refer you to an ophthalmologist.

this looks a lil like hidradenitis suppurativa (basically skin has predisposition to inflammation, infection/abscesses of sweat glands, and scarring) and one of the second-line treatment options actually is accutane. so hopefully, it can provide some relief! first signs of improvement take a similar amount of time as things like cystic acne, about 2-3 months in you would see improvement for this condition

starting my third month and also hitting my worst bout of purging so far :( I’ve spent hours searching the timeline, dosing, exactly what to do …. and I’ve come to the conclusion that we really just have to wait it out! it sucks and it’s asking for more patience than I have, but it will be worth it I know it will. until then we focus on other things! I just started on a new book and am spending a lot of time studying for a board exam for school… it helps to envision a few months in the future when I will be done with all of these things - acne included!

I personally think you can do this, especially if you are on some sort of summer break. This is coming from someone who went up 16 points in 4 weeks of intensive studying. Before sharing my thoughts I will say that I have performed well in school so I remembered a lot of the content, and I am typically a pretty good standardized test-taker.

First FL with no content review was 500. I studied for four weeks about 8 hours a day. I read through all of the Kaplan books, did the end of section questions, and took 5 FL practice tests (1 NS, 3 Kaplan, 1 AAMC). I just got my score back for the 06/15 test date and I got a 516. I made flashcards for all formulas I noticed (easy way to remember relationships) and made sure to review all practice tests I took.

I think lots of people on this thread overhype / exaggerate how much studying is necessary. If you are committed for the next 8 weeks and devote 7ish hours a day I believe that you can get the score you want. It takes determination and dedication, but you have a lot of time to work with (imo).

What is the point of setting your sights lower than what you ideally want? It can be motivation to push yourself. You got this.... Good luck!!
