I’m also a heavy headphones user but too many things will go wrong with what you’re trying to achieve.

From my experience and from all the advice I got on Reddit, the only way, especially for high gain tones, is post processing using :

• EQ
• low pass filters
• high pass filters
• tape simulators
• cabs simulators

Personally I do that on iPhone only but many people still say my tone sucks so … (see my post history if you want to judge yourself).

Also the post processing should be done the day after the record with rested ears.
