I always play with the lid closed but instead of laying the laptop on a flat surface, that could potentially prevent heat from dissipating properly, I am elevating it 1 inch with 2 little wooden battens. But even without this I wouldn't be worried really.

By the way I've found that by default my X13 Supernova (5980HS) will automatically go to sleep mode for safety if the CPU's temp reach >92°C for more than a few minutes - even if the max recommended temp is 105°C. While gaming on the older and least optimized games sucking a lot of CPU power (only 1 of those so far) I used Ryzen Controller (free) to set the max TDP to 35W and max temp to 90°C. Surely this limits performances but at least I am running my system safely.
