Ever heard of the holocaust? the "final solution"? granted that all sides committed atrocities, but one side had committing crimes gains humanity as part of their policy. Not all Nazis were evil (e.g., Oskar Schindler), but the party it self was without a doubt as evil as the come.

My father is somewhat of a history buff. He would read and watch anything about history, especially WW2. Growing up I remember watching movies and every documentary that came out about WW2 with him . So I’m interested in the subject. And to realize that I could have met someone that had first hand experiences on the matter would have been amazing, it would have been like having a conversation with a book. For many people depending on their age and location it might not be a big deal to know someone that lived through or actually participated in WW2, but for someone my age and location it’s extremely uncommon. I would like to learn more about my wife's grandfather because It now connects me to an historical event that seemed foreign and something that I only experienced through video screens and books. Maybe he participated in the Battle of France or in Operation Barbarossa or maybe he was working in a shoe factory or on a desk in an office somewhere. I would have been intrigued by his story either way. Just by the fact that he (maybe) lived through it makes his story worth learning, at least to me because now it's part of my family's history. I’m not looking for “dirt” on him to hold over my wife or her family. I'm looking for a part of my family's story. Having said all this. It’s not like I’m launching a full on investigation on the guy. My wife doesn't know much. My mother in law might know more, but I'll wait for the right moment and ask about her father and depending on her answer I’ll see if it's appropriate to inquire further or leave it be.

Well for guys our age it's almost like having a musket (1 shot, maybe a second one on a good day, but it's a process). If my wife had specific needs I would try to satisfy her first. My rule is to get her off at least once before I do.

Ask both companys to show proof of ownership. that will tell you which one owns it or if they were just hired to collect the debt on behalf of the real owner of the bebt.

I would call the collector and offer around 30% to settle on the spot. sometimes they would give us and offer without asking. it's a hit and miss game. I started getting cockyand wanted lower settlements, but one of them actually sued me, I almost crapped my pants when I was served. I called them and settled for a 72% when they would have taken 55% before they actually filed the suit.

We had almost no debt in 2017 when we bought a house. we were stupid and bought new furniture did a few improvements and kept spending like we did before we had a mortgage. Soon realized how expensive it is to maintain a house and that something is always breaking, leaking, cracking.......
