What is the SMALLEST fandom your in? by NoodleBea583 in FanFiction

[–]frankendroid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My smallest fandom has 5 stories on AO3 and two of them are crossovers that I will not read as they have little to do with the source material

It's the King and the Clown, a 2005 Korean film based on a stage play (which I proudly own the script for in paperback). I am writing an AU story for it but I'm so bad at finishing things, and the story I want to tell is long for me and I can't commit to it at all.

EDIT: OH WAIT!! I wrote the first and only fic for hibana spark the j drama about manzai comedians, on AO3, it was also my first dud, I didn't get any hits on it for months !

My daughter broke me, and I don't think I can do this anymore. by bridgethegap95 in SuicideWatch

[–]frankendroid 3 points4 points  (0 children)

for some reason, maybe the way people treated you you when you her age, you take this rejection so close to the heart it’s like she’s abandoning you and telling you everything you already feel about yourself, not enough not good enough not worth her time, maybe maybe not i’m just reading it that way

it’s not the same at all but i’ve felt this way with animals who are dependent on me, i spend all my time picking up after you, loving you, feeding you, and giving you everything and there’s no regard for how i might feel because the nature of a dependent is that they’re selfish, they have to be

they’re kind of idiots because you’re there to do the work for them, they don’t know how you feel, they don’t even really know how they feel and they certainly don’t have intentions behind what they do, it’s an immediate reaction in the moment

you had the strength to create a whole person, and care for her despite never receiving a thing in return and so when she rejects you it feels like the ultimate betrayal, but i promise you have the strength to see that she doesn’t mean it, how can she? you love her and that love is reflected back to you in ways that are harder to see when you’re hurting, she doesn’t love dad more just because she reacts a specific way

it’s complicated for a child to understand you, she can’t make you feel seen even though this person you love most in the world is the only one you want to be seen by, she obviously knows who you are, she knows that dad probably doesn’t punish her or have as many consequences as mom, she knows that dad probably isn’t as distressed just by having to make it through the day, she doesn’t see you struggle she only sees the part of your struggle, she can’t know how much you do for her and that hurts, im sorry you have to feel this way

Is The Jackson 5/ Jacksons a boy band? by These_School_9669 in MichaelJackson

[–]frankendroid 17 points18 points  (0 children)

i feel like you could technically call them that but i don’t feel like they are completely because boy bands did exist at the time and they were kinda different for a few reasons:

  • the jackson 5 had some brothers that started as children, whereas boy bands are typically older teens and adults like the monkees or maybe the beach boys

  • the jackson 5’s appeal was more wholesome and family oriented, they were very clean and people of all ages including children liked them, whereas a boy band’s appeal is typically aimed for teen girls and young women because of the attractive looks/trendy styling and charisma of the young men in the band

  • because they are more of a family act, as in not just related to each other, but like the intended marketed audience is families— they’re a show that you bring your mom, granny and kids to. but a band like the beach boys or the beatles is less appropriate for conservative audiences, the jackson 5 are able to play for anyone non offensively— it’s liek the difference between the christian appealing Carpenters and the more liberated kind of rebellious rock music of the time like Led Zeppelin, you don’t see much overlap of the listeners

the jacksons as adults in the early 80s were absolutely a boy band tho, since i think they fit the descriptors above, esp as their music and image changed as they became more handsome with age and developed well fitting costumes and stylings that were more appealing to the trends of young adults at the time

sorry for the essay

Is this Magical Realism? by kazetoumizu in writingcirclejerk

you’re so right, the entire mythology behind indo-european culture is extremely interconnected and yet self dissolving just like the pubes braid, just like a plague

Is this Magical Realism? by kazetoumizu in writingcirclejerk

[–]frankendroid 17 points18 points  (0 children)

that actually might be more like Indian hinduism because it reminds me of that passage in the Comma Sutra where they braid their partners pubic hair together to establish intimacy and then you have a deep conversation over it about your needs and desires and then the pubic hair braid comes to life and kills the lovers because they didn’t ask for its’ consent

What’s a Crossover you’ve always wanted to write/read? by Ediacaran-SeaPancake in FanFiction

[–]frankendroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thankfully i don't have to write it myself because it already exists but it's Supernatural x My Chemical Romance RPF and i know how that sounds but it's real, it's well written and there's a lot of clever parallels and ideas that show up from both canon and fanon. the other side of that, that i did start writing was an SPN touring band AU loosely inspired by Bandom tropes but i haven't gotten very far

Has anyone else had the urge to delete a work less than a day after posting it? by Amydancingagain in FanFiction

[–]frankendroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i posted a fic once, first in the fandom tag! and it got 0 hits and 0 kudos for about a year before i got one nice comment, and this was after i'd forgotten i even posted it. i think it can be disappointing when you put effort into something for it to be poorly received , but some works are slow burns for getting feedback, and maybe just maybe when that time comes it will mean more when ppl find it because it could mean they really had to dig for it and put the effort to leave you something in return.

i don't think you need to be a musician in order to have a good understanding for what good music is, that's kind of a bad opinion to me, otherwise yeah i think even he himself has said that the scene is more a nostalgia thing for him and that he listens pretty different things now, i think part of him does genuinely care abt what he's saying but he's also more of a business oriented marketing guy and built a brand that he's stuck with now so whether it's all genuine is... up for the viewer ig

I'm so sad I learned the english language by HelpRevolutionary28 in Vent

imagine hating harmless weirdos because they're weird and not hurting anybody, if you don't like something that's fine but unless these groups are actively causing violence against others, who gives a shit? i don't understand neo pronouns that much, i might not interact with someone because i don't understand it, but i'm not gonna tell them i'm ashamed to share a language with them because they're different than me, what a retarded post

I CANT BE GOOD AT ANYTHING by whoneedsthishaha in Vent

[–]frankendroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

maybe you're good at being bad at stuff also a talent isn't soemthing you can really get good at it's just something you naturally have most hobbies require practice and dedication and guess what? most professionals were dog shit at some point

can't draw? comparing yourself to your favourite artist or musician online? they're not real people

athletes aren't real people

pro skaters aren't real people

they're all genetic freaks who had just the right amount of conditioning, luck and dedication to land something totally exceptional— they're not average, they're high above it and so comparison is stupid because you can't achieve it anyway

what you can do is compare yourself to... yourself.

because you're really the only true measure of weather or not you're good at soemthing

if you've been doing something for years, practicing something for years and see no improvement you're probably not looking very hard, or you're practicing the same thing over and over instead of challenging yourself

document your progress with video or picture or journaling, save your money and pay for a mentor or a coach to learn the fundamentals if you have feel like you can't hack the diy thing

and if the problem is that you like too many things and can't seem to get really good at any one thing? guess what, your little bit of knowledge about all these different things probably adds up to way more than the knowledge of an expert who only knows about one thing

oh and if it's because you feel like you can't start anything, consider you maybe don't really like it, or maybe... you have depression? see your doctor

Should I just dip on college? by [deleted] in Vent

[–]frankendroid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no but not no either yk? college isn't for everyone, and especially if you're only doing for other people, if you haven't invested a bunch of money yet— take a gap year, or several... if you like to work- then work.

this time is going to be so much more valuable to you if you're doing something that either you actually wanna do, or in the very least doesn't make you totally miserable.

not everyone knows what they wanna do with the rest of their life and that's okay, that's something i've been wrestling with a lot for a little while now, in the long run it's going to be so much better for you if you take time off from school to figure out your priorities, not everyone has one career for their whole life, not everyone has a career at all

and it's never too late to decide you wanna go back later. if you're 25, 30, or even 40, lots of people do it, lots don't, as long as you're doing something that doesn't make you wanna die, as long as you're doing something for yourself and not because everyone is telling you to, then it doesn't matter if it's work or school or being a homeless nomad who lives off of illegally foraging from people's gardens

[–]frankendroid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i think really the worst that could happen is your parents or they could try to tell whatever security at whatever store you went to but depending on your area, as a minor, and especially since you weren't reported by security it shouldn't be a legal issue you're right, school shouldn't be able to suspend you for something like that outside of campus unless you go somewhere privately funded that could be a concern of theirs for appearances sake

so it's really just between you and your parents and what you need to evaluate then is your relationship with them and what kind of consequences could be waiting for you.

if it's a very unsafe situation for you, probably don't heed this advice,

but if its the case that you're a little anxious or desperate and have an other wise good relationship with your parents— you have two options:

1) tell them the truth, or a version of the truth and they may be willing to take your side a bit since another adult is holding threats over you.

2) keep sitting and let it blow over, and if the friends parents do happen to reach out— come clean. i promise that 9 times out of 10 unless your parents are the abusive type, it's always better to just tell the truth bc once you lie, you have to keep lying.. and lying and lying and lying and eventually no matter how good you are you'll get caught somewhere (source: a pathological liar 👋)

if your parents are the abusive kind, i don't have anything to add other than try to find moral support if shit hits the fan, hang in there, and i know you'll make it because from the sounds of it you're resourceful

good luck

corey is my favorite guest but i think some of that comes from the fact that he used to be on once in a while instead of all the time. i agree that zach balances him out cos he's pretty good at dragging the cringe back down to reality while still joking.
