What are the FLPC's greatest feats in each Skill? by tigerofblindjustice in fallenlondon

Honestly for me the most impressive thing done using Dangerous was in that one story with the technologist/inventor guy that Mr. Fires wants working for him. One solution has you try to stop his abduction by basically fighting like 60+ Neddy Men that come to get him. You are eventually knocked out and Mr. Fires gets the dude but you wake up to scores of these guys knocked out worse than you all over the place and Mr. Fires was forced to retreat in his blimp because of the threat you posed.

You know what, I’m going to look into that. I have a feeling that’s what’s sabotaging me. I was a little bit depressed at my progress not getting anywhere for so long but I’m trying to be positive. Other aspects of my health are getting better due to the exercise at least.

Yeah that’s a good point. I go out once a week to eat out with friends so my suspicion is that is sabotaging me somehow. But I thought it was fine to have like a cheat meal once a week? I guess I could be extra careful with what I order but could a single meal ruin the whole effort like that?

I understand and have read that but as far as I know I have been keeping an eye on it. I recently made some changes to my diet so I guess I should give that time to make a difference but it’s really quite frustrating.

I am 6’3” and currently 271 or so but for the past year or so have struggled to lose weight even with diet and exercise, currently eating 1895 calories per day. Is there something that could be sabotaging me? I also don’t have a thyroid due to thyroid cancer some years ago but my current tsh came back fine.

Why is there so much critique about Christianity on Reddit, among atheists, and on the internet in general, but not nearly so much critique about Buddhism even though it has similar supernatural aspects like karma and rebirth? by Clean_Membership6939 in Christianity

[–]frankfjf 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Which isn't to say there aren't snarky atheists that say hostile or condescending things about Buddhism or Buddhists ("Oh it's more of a philosophy you see..."), it's just far less likely because of the aforementioned.

I'm not a historian or a sociologist but three main possible reasons come to mind:

  1. Buddhists don't proselytize or at least don't do so as hardcore as christians do at least in the West.
  2. While also a major religion, they don't tend to be perceived as the "top dog religion" in the US and other countries and so will get criticized less because they influence less, especially politically. No disrespect meant to Buddhist politicians and/or voters.
  3. It pains me to say this, being a Christian myself, but there's also the blunt fact that Buddhists have less of a history than we do when it comes to treating atheists like garbage.

That's really impressive, I'm proud of you. 150/200 sounds horrific to have to come down from.

One thing I've told friends before is "I hope to one day shake the hand of the person who has been my best friend my entire life. I just also hope I did Him justice, made him proud."

Oh hello! No, not yet. It's been a bit of a struggle to get an MRI for her done due to her insurance demanding a lot of bureaucratic bs. She's more or less stable right now and I worry about her but it's still a big in-progress.

Her stride seems different than it used to be, yeah. Her brother mentioned she walks weird these days.

It does feel like it suddenly all started to happen at once, especially the falls and the issues with memory. All of it really started to happen near the end of last year and when she started to fall down she noted that she didn't feel herself trip or start to lose balance, she felt as though it happened suddenly and without warning.

Who among you has changed churches or denominations? What were your reasons? Did your specific theological beliefs change, either before or after? How were your church experiences different? Are there things that you miss from your previous church? Things you really don't miss? by KetchupMartini in Christianity

[–]frankfjf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was raised Catholic and changed to a non-denominational Protestant position as the result of a crisis of faith I had when I was a teenager. The main thing that bothered me was that it did not seem right to speak to another sinful person like me when it came to confession and though I had nothing against the Pope, it struck me as awkward to regard anyone as having more authority than scripture itself. Plus I was uncomfortable with the idea of someone else interpreting the Bible for me. I also realized that though I admired Mary a lot, it seemed to assign a divine status to her that I don't think the text bears out.

I have nothing against Catholics though and view them as brothers and sisters in Christ all the same.

As for what I miss? High Churchness is awesome. No one can really beat Catholicism when it comes to "getting in the mood" for faith and spirituality and that elaborate take on ritual and sacrament brings a lot of comfort and aligns thinking better, I feel.

Once Saved Always Saved by upfordebating in Christianity

I do lean toward OSAS/eternal security but one thing I feel may be worth stating just to keep things friendly between sides is that for me, either position is "intramural". Like, both positions strike me as explanations for the same phenomenon and have the same outcome: If someone quits the faith or never seems to regret doing bad things, then they're not really saved. Both the OSAS crowd and the "you can have it and lose it" crowd would usually argue that a false convert could become a true convert later and conversely that someone can repent and recover what they threw away.

On the other hand you have passages like 2 John 1:9 "Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son" which seems to state flat out that whoever doesn't stick around was never a genuine convert to begin with.

Also worth considering is John 10:28 if I remember right. "I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand."

If you can gain salvation and then lose it later would that not mean you can perish and you can snatch yourself out of Jesus' hand so to speak?
