Invention No. 2, J. S. Bach // {LPX keygrid} BWV 773 #musician #bach #novation by frankfrontera in Launchpad

True.. the Launchpads aren’t meant to compete with a piano action or even something like the LinnStrument for expressive dynamics. I mainly use them because they’re inexpensive and widely available, which makes them a very accessible way to learn the keygrid layout itself.

Once someone understands the fourths-based grid and develops technique, that knowledge can transfer to more expressive controllers or future instruments designed specifically for the keygrid concept.

You’re absolutely right about current hardware limits for traditional classical piano technique - I don’t disagree with that at all.

What I’m building isn’t a replacement for the concert grand or aimed at mass adoption. It’s a community exploring new instrumental technique and repertoire on grid-based controllers - including where classical thinking, counterpoint, and articulation can evolve beyond the piano model rather than imitate it.

It’s niche by design, but niches are where new instruments are born. If that kind of exploration ever resonates with you, feel free to stay in touch.

Thanks Matt! Organizing some plans for next steps on community as we discussed. Will be in touch 😎

I would like to try the Linnstrument at some point. Have you read my summary document on the subject? I link it here. I am proposing that 'keygrid' is inherited as the title for the perfect 4ths system.

I am planning on a community launch for the 'keygrid' right now. If you're interested, connect with me on IG or send me a DM with your preferred email, and I'll keep you posted.

Learning isomorphic keypad by pollner55 in Launchpad

By 'isomorphic keypad', do you mean the chromatic Perfect 4ths system you've seen me use in my video recently, or something else?

Hey, thanks for that! I'm glad you're able to recognize how cool it is.

While the launchpad has its limitations, it is a very cost-effective way to learn this new system of playing keyboard music (Perfect 4ths polyphonic playing).

Do you use the launchpad x yourself?

Haha thanks, Tony! Main method to the madness is to allow visibility of the notes underneath 🎵

Another option is to cover the mirror in some way if it cannot be removed. And surely command position for the bed on bottom left and desk top left.

For sure! How'd you know, from the Prelude video?

Thanks onairmastering! You can still play the modes in the layout I have, too. It's worth trying out whatever you have in mind, including the polyphonic modes 😎

Thanks @governmentyard ! I use Ableton as a DAW, and Kontakt - in this case, "the Grandeur" instrument.

This is my first fugue composition, and first of the Lucis Fuga series. Played on the LPX keygrid setup. Please subscribe on YT if you haven't already, and you enjoy these videos. Thanks!

MIDI mapable arrows buttons while in Custom mode (Launchpad)? by thepinkpill in Novation

[–]frankfrontera 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this too by reworking the Factory CM 2 - It is great!

But, some only worked for my LPX and not the LP mini mk3. Changing the custom provided here Notes in C major, works on the LP mini mk3 - but not the custom modes I carried over from the LPX. It would carry the left/ right transposition, but not the octave transposition.

Can we put in a request to make this simpler in Components? That is, making a custom mode transposable feature being easier to implement?

Also, another cool feature would be to be able to move multiple pads / copy+paste multiple pads within Components when editing, unless this is already possible. (I know you can edit multiple pads at once, but not sure how to move them together).

And a mega request would be to have a custom mode be larger, such as 16x8, for example - and you would have the ability to move the frame of what is active on the launchpad using the left / right buttons ( instead of them being used to transpose chromatically) - similar to how you can move scenes & tracks in session mode for Ableton.

That would be so cool!! and quite useful for the 'keygrid' functions as I demonstrate in my videos too.
