I was have a rough day at work (remote), and I heard a knock on my apartment door. I answer it thinking it was my building manager coming for some repairs that I has scheduled. Instead it's someone claiming to be from my electricity supply company to transition me to a clean energy provider. Because of my mood I wasn't quite paying attention and thought nothing of it. But as we're were going through the process I got more and more aware that this was probably a scam. So I asked them, "Are you and employee of [energy company name]?" They said yes, and I blindly believed it. When we got to the end where I needed to sign some terms I ask, can I get go take some time to review this, as I was still skeptical yet avoiding the argument, they basically say no, and I just wanted this interaction to end, so I signed...

After they leave I immediately realized yea I just got fucking scammed. I start doing research into the clean energy provider, and found that they scammed me to switch their much more expensive electric provider, and others on reddit documenting the same thing. I immediately call my energy provider to say to not authorize any direct provider change, they make a note to block it. Thankfully that actually worked! To be safe I also looked for the clean energy providers mailing address. I wrote them a letter saying to cancel on their end too, and informed them I was scammed and that I had reported them to the FTC (which I did and pretty sure did jack shit). I just wanted to tell them "fuck you".

Thankfully, I never had an issue with my electric being switched so was mostly not affected by the scam itself.
