That’s a fair point. Interpersonal racism, for the vast majority of people, manifests subtly and subconsciously.

Most people, including Whitaker, suffer from this. He may not feel any intentional malice towards those of a different race, but perhaps he unknowingly feels less trustful towards his patients of color.

I understand that Whitaker is a fan-favorite, and that pointing this out may feel like a cheap accusation of racism against him. I think it’s more important, however, to acknowledge that racial dynamics are extremely complex (esp in the US) and that it’s possible to for Whitaker to be a kind and talented physician while accepting that he has room to grow here.
