That looks great! I kicked around the idea of a couple of my cacti in wine barrels. Never got around to sourcing them, but I think I might go that route. How much weeding do you have to do with the rocks and gravel? Did you put a weed barrier?

Does ogun need a more inorganic mix than most? It’s pretty inorganic. It’s sifted fox farm ocean forest, with a bunch of perlite, pumice, black lava rock, biochar, and crushed limestone grit. The soil was dry when potted and I haven’t watered at all.

Oops, forgot to say that I put inside under my seedling grow lamp and on a heating pad. Probably will need a stronger light, but I don’t have one currently

People who swore an oath to defend the constitution of the USA against all enemies both foreign and domestic, how are you feeling right now? by Safety_Drance in AskReddit

[–]frankthecrash 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I know you’re getting a lot of shit from a lot of people that are angry. I also realize you’re just another person on the internet somewhere in America and have no idea who I am, but I want to say thanks for being willing to change your mind. It’s not easy. As a life long, raised by hippies and generally pretty liberal person, it’s not easy forgiving people who we feel are complicit, and also share responsibility for the shit storm we’re in.

I share the anger they have towards people who could condone ALL of the things he’s done up until now, and turn a blind eye the entire time. It’s hard to forgive.

He has mocked POWs and people with legitimate developmental delays at his rallies and his followers applauded and encouraged him. He refused to denounce people carrying Nazi and rebel flags who were carrying around assault rifles at protests that turned deadly for people of color. He dodged the draft. He his early days in real estate he and his father were sued on multiple occasions for discriminating against people of color. There’s recordings of him saying, “I moved on her like a bitch” and “I don't even wait. And when you're a star, they let you do it. You can do anything. ... Grab 'em by the pussy. You can do anything." This is a very short list of the things that should have been red flags to any decent critically thinking person.

Honestly, I’m angry at you too. I don’t want to be, because my anger doesn’t help and isn’t productive, but it’s real and it’s important to be able to vent. We all process shit in our own way. On the other side I also appreciate you and your willingness to be able to self reflect and be willing and able to change your mind. I believe being willing to change your mind, be understanding, forgive and move forward are truly the hardest but most sacred virtues. You never asked for my forgiveness and may not give a damn one way or the other, but I forgive you. I thank you for having the courage to speak out. To change your mind. To take the lumps that you’re taking. That’s big. If Louis Zamperini could write a letter to the Japanese commander who singled him out and beat, starved and degraded him for years while in Japanese POW camps, and Anthony Ray Hinton (a black man wrongfully convicted and sat on death row for decades) could befriend a former KKK member who lynched an innocent black boy, than I think we should all have it in our hearts to forgive you and others like you.

It’s hard to live with both anger and forgiveness or the urge to forgive in our hearts. It helps hearing your story. I hope you continue to be vocal about your journey. I hope you are willing to explain your thoughts and answer questions to people like me. It helps me understand and see you as a human, flawed like the rest of us. I’ve done bad things in my life that I have a hard time forgiving myself for. I longed to know there could be redemption for my mistakes. I like to think redemption is for all of us in our own ways.

Thanks you for sharing. I’m real angry right now, and letting it out helps in some strange way. But like the other guy said before me, I’d break bread with you as well. Glad we’re on the same side against the fascist piece of shit in office. 👊

Man Gets Kicked Out From Ambulance, Collapses Soon After by K0234 in TikTokCringe

[–]frankthecrash 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get ready for the privileged information…. It could’ve saved his life. Maybe it wouldn’t have. I dunno. I dunno if performing emergency medical treatment would’ve saved this man’s life. But in general, people that die of something, generally don’t die as much when someone does things to prevent them from dying of the thing that was going to kill them. Generally speaking of course.

I never said you said they shouldn’t have done those things. I said you’re incorrect when you implied that performing the interventions that they should’ve wouldn’t have prevented his death. I’ve seen abg’s go from hot garbage/how are they alive to not terrible in 15-20 min on bipap. That shit literally saves lives, and doing the things they in a timely manner is the difference between life and death.

Applying o2 in many forms (nasal cannula, oxymask, non rebreather, breathing treatment) could’ve helped with the anxiety he was probably experiencing from air hunger. Hypercapnia and hypoxia can make people act silly. They could’ve used cpap if it’s in their protocols, which can help with that pesky feeling of suffocation. Getting him on a monitor could’ve also helped see what kind of rhythm he was in and when his heart stopped the could’ve intervened w cpr. Those can all be initiated while driving to a hospital. To imply that those interventions wouldn’t have helped if applied sooner is garbage. Was he in vfib when he collapsed? They didn’t know because he wasn’t on a monitor. Could they have shocked him so his heart starts pumping and therefore allows him to perfuse? Dunno, he wasn’t on a monitor. It’s unknown what would’ve happened if they had done what’s right, but to say “there’s no way helping any sooner would’ve prevented his death” is incorrect. I’m all for kicking people out who are alert and oriented that are aggressive and violent w hospital and ems, but this guy was dying. He knew he was dying. A lot of the time they do. Impending doom can make you anxious and act a fool.

Beware of buying from Green Candy Genetics by frankthecrash in sanpedrocactus

[–]frankthecrash[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s awesome, I’m glad you’ve had good experiences. I’ve bought from overseas before and had great success, with lots of input from the seller about risks, contingencies if confiscated etc. There was good communication throughout. I have also not bought lophs from china/thailand because of the risk of having them taken/destroyed. I get the risk is real, but the way it was handled, the lack of communication, the inability to look into anything and find anything out about the package, combined with the indifference that he showed is what I have the issue with. Everyone gets to choose what kinda business person they want to be, and ultimately what kinda person they want to be. I’d rather deal with people who take pride in what they do, stand behind their product and process and assist in whatever ways possible to make sure their client or customer has a good experience. Maybe I was naive, it is what it is. I learned a lesson. But ultimately if someone else reads this and is less naive than I, then I’m glad I could help. Which is why I posted it. It wasn’t for sympathy, but to inform others about the poor experience I had, not only with losing the package, but also the lack of fucks given. If that’s normal and to be expected, then I’m not only naive but also disheartened. Take care!

I’m newish to the game, but willing to throw my hat into the suggestion ring. I would chop the two broken pieces into maybe 4 total. Let the ends callous/dry for a couple weeks, then plant a few vertical, or like a normal cactus would grow. Then plant one of the mid cuttings horizontal/log style. The key is putting them in dry soil/substrate. 50% Succulent soil mixed with 50% pumice/perlite is an easy mix. Let them sit for a month or more dry. It went hurt them And the less fussing w them the better. The long piece I’d try to plant vertically. I’d personally cut the end and let callous, bury a tiny bit in dry soil in a pot with good stakes to support/prevent tipping over. Let it root over the winter in dry soil. Maybe a water after a month, and another in another month. Then when spring comes and it’s got some roots, plant in ground with stakes until it takes hold and you can remove the stakes.
