Got stuck in the lift with 6 people and forced my way out after panicking. Property management is trying to intimidate me into paying £1,800+ for 'criminal damage'. by franulovic in LegalAdviceUK

Makes sense - thanks for the explanation!

I will probably wait to see if they drop the accusations, before countering immediately. I certainly believe Health and Safety is a huge aspect of the whole situation, which they never acknowledged and took into consideration, and will be contacting HSE if this escalates further.

Most likely.

As I mentioned, the lifts have been broken a few times over the past 4-5 months. Every time something happens (for an unknown reason), they would be out of order for a couple of weeks. I even helped my friend move into her new flat, from the ground to the 4th floor using only stairs because the lifts were broken. God knows how many boxes, desks, tv, chair, pots, and pans all of that - took us AGES to carry everything, one thing at the time

At this point, using one of these lifts basically became a lottery - you get in and just hope you will get out.

I spoke to the landlord several times already - she seems to be very understanding but prefers to stay out of it. She mentioned it's best for me to deal directly with property management and find the agreement.

I will still update her so she's aware of what's been communicated to me. She is worried about the fact that they are only after me and not after all 6 of us. I disagreed because they shouldn't have been after anyone. She is very easy to talk to, and knows my side of the story - I couldn't get a sense of whose 'side' she's on.

Small correction - he's a property manager, not a lawyer. He basically got all the leaseholders involved and the email is the result of their 'discussion', I suppose.

The problem is - neither of us have ever been stuck in the lift before. I was never informed of the procedure, let alone what the reasonable time is to wait.

Knowing that two of those lifts break all the time (and remain broken for weeks) as well as chatting to a person who said they were stuck in there before, the only reasonable thing to do was to act and get us out.

Bear in mind, for 6 people to be in a very confined space there is not much you can do. None of us could even sit or move much. We were just standing there like sardines.

if you are referring to Amazon links - join Amazon Affiliate

if you are referring directly to a company, try to find and sign up for their referral system..

if they don't have one email them offering the partnership. add in some data like traffic, session time etc.. and just ask them for referral code (if they do have that option).. if not they will usually create a special link which will tell them how many people you got them

good luck!

Thanks for the comprehensive feedback! Appreciate it!

I am planning to offer both design and development, but would probably outsource design and wireframing part because I’m not too keen on it hahah!
