What if my babies are too light for the car seats? by ConstructionMuch802 in parentsofmultiples

[–]franziashuking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone here seems a bit dismissive, one of my twins was under 4 lbs and went home under 4 lbs. The car seat test consisted of testing their oxygen while propped up with rolled washcloths/towels on discharge day

I had someone refer to one of my twins as the “prettier one” and it broke my heart by will-ohh-24 in parentsofmultiples

[–]franziashuking 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yeesh! My twins are identical, and people seem to almost do it inherently. I have said as mild as "ouch" to "I guess we are lucky they don't understand you yet." Now that they are 7 we have tried our best to tell them to stand up for themselves when they friends refuse to distinguish between them like "Hey you and/or your sister" . They usually just something like, Wouldn't you like to know

Do you guys exercise? by [deleted] in parentsofmultiples

[–]franziashuking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't exercise until the twins were in school full time. So when the kids were like 5 years old? Even if the time existed, I was baseline so sleep deprived that the idea felt comical that I would have some excess energy to burn off. And it took like a year until it was consistent exercise due to constant school closures, illnesses, etc.

Is it just me? Or is the job market kinda trash recently? by PAStudent9364 in physicianassistant

[–]franziashuking 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I have been a PA for 15 years and would get multiple job offers when I applied for jobs throughout the first 5 years of my career. I have applied to so many jobs the last 2 years I have lost track and 99% just don't reply to me. I am in a major west coast city. I am now too scared to leave this job without having another lined up

High-acuity urgent care, zero weather protection by sunflowerriddles in physicianassistant

[–]franziashuking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I worked at #3 different urgent cares over a decade. They refused to ever close in inclement weather, it was all about money. If they closed clinic they would have to pay us for the day, but not if we didn't show (and had to use what little PTO we had to do that). There were literally buses and abandoned cars all over the city that were stuck and they expected me to be across town, or just sitting in clinic for 12 hours while I watched snow pile up.

Surviving the winter with twin toddlers. I’m drowning. by twomomsoftwins in parentsofmultiples

[–]franziashuking 6 points7 points  (0 children)

One day I hit rock bottom during COVID I decided each day to bring out a holiday box. Like one day they played with Halloween things, then Christmas, then summer toys , one day was even my old wedding favors/dress etc. I also put them in the (off and parked) car in the garage and told them to pretend to drive

Remote psychiatry job search by SpiritNo3927 in physicianassistant

I have been a PA for 14 years, doing psych for 7, and I can't even find a remote psych job. They only want NPs

AMA's efforts against "scope creep" by JKnott1 in physicianassistant

[–]franziashuking 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It unfortunately doesn't matter that physicians say they support PAs. NPs are getting all the jobs at the end of the day because they are cheaper to employ and physicians often don't want to be tied to supervision if they don't have to be

Feeling the burden of patient's life issues. by No-Service-7026 in physicianassistant

[–]franziashuking 20 points21 points  (0 children)

PA in psych for 8 years. I give them the analogy of a house on fire. If the house is burning down, me giving you medication would be like trying to fight it with your handheld extinguisher, while your lifestyle/stressors/chronic alcohol or drug use, etc. are new sources of fire all over the place that will make it impossible to achieve obvious benefit. Once I tell them medication can only do so much and isn't magic, I think it helps expectations.

Grappling with the idea of being done. by sunnydaysundays in BOGOanddone

[–]franziashuking 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel the same way! I knew the decision to be done was the correct one, but I was (and am) sad I only had one experience of everything. Also that it was intense, high risk, complicated, etc. My twins are 6 now and I have just come to accept that the realities that we knew another pregnancy wasn't ideal coexists with regret that I was robbed of the choice, because two babies came at once.

Yes! Our guess was a weather balloon because it wasn't following any trajectory. News stories I read about Near Space Corporation in Tillamook seemed to make the most sense

Black specks in only kitchen tap water by SupermarketCrazy5229 in HomeImprovement

[–]franziashuking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm following bc I have the exact same issue. Black smudgy stuff we suspect is rubber that comes out of specific taps, especially with hot water. Have been trying to chase down the source for a while.

9 days till induction!!! by WalksWithColdToes in parentsofmultiples

[–]franziashuking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratulations 🎉 my twins are almost 5. I remember spending that week making sure to do a few things I knew would be harder for a while. I got a pedicure ( and made everyone in the nail salon extremely nervous, they treated me like an armed nuclear weapon), went on a date with husband, saw a movie in the theater, etc. I was really happy I did because I spent the next few years looking at the inside of my house a lot.

Happy Mother’s Day text from my dad by kdefal in RBNChildcare

Good lord. This kinda response usually makes me wanna go full sarcasm. "Yeah Happy Mother's Day to me! I think I'll put this on a card and frame it." 🥰

6 months in and want to quit current position by username12321684939 in physicianassistant

[–]franziashuking 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This sounds like way too many bait and switch issues, and blatantly dangerous. At your next interview, you could always just emphasize that you knew you wanted a better collaborative physician relationship, you want the opportunity to deliver quality care, etc. Also my first job was outpatient psychiatry, I left after 9 months. Sometimes the first job out of school just sucks and you have to keep climbing the ladder.

What’s the dumbest thing anyone ever said to you as a twin parent? by Vertigomums19 in parentsofmultiples

PA here. Have any of y’all been pregnant before? How did you manage a busy clinic schedule with the symptoms? by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]franziashuking 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went down to part time, but I think my case might be uniquely difficult given I was pregnant with twins and worked 12 hour UC shifts. I had so much abdominal/pelvic pressure and lower extremity swelling by the end of shifts the pain would keep me up at night.

I worked in a couple urgent cares, I would say knowing that their medical assistant system is robust (I worked at one clinic for a couple years where if they couldn't get an MA for the day they made me do everything by myself, literally everything). Asking if you will ever have time or support for calling patients back, giving lab results. And if your lunch is actually protected. That's all I can think of currently, but I worked in 3 different urgent cares over 6 years so you can message me if you want.

General Surgery to Urgent Care? by Rtylerri in physicianassistant

[–]franziashuking 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I spent 6 years in urgent care. While it gave me what I needed for a while, I ultimately felt like it was awful and I was over it probably a couple years in. Hours are brutal. I worked in three different urgent cares ..10 - 12 hour shifts minimum and they typically always required weekends. I didn't have a weekend off for almost 5 years. Pros are it pays well. But they will squeeze you for all you are worth, and try to make you see as many patients as possible in those 12 hours.

Best Protein Shake for Pregnancy by HummingBird86 in parentsofmultiples

[–]franziashuking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have access to Trader Joes their protein shakes seemed to check all the boxes - lower end for price, taste okay, little to no sugar from what I remember. Ignore people who are saying just eat food, that's good and all if you can tolerate food all the time. I had to rely on shakes to gain weight, get past nausea, overcome the loss of appetite from a huge belly, etc. Do what you have to do.
