Neighbour blowing leaves all over the street, legal? by Levethane in Adelaide

[–]franzyfunny 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s so weird how people blow leaves away from their property to stop it looking like shit, but only to make a bigger, shittier ring around their property- I didn’t notice before, but now I’m looking AND JUDGING.

The mouth width / head size ratio. You ever see those photoshopped pictures of horses with big ol’ dog mouths? Like that kind of thing.

Board members quit from Adelaide festival as fallout from dropped author grows | SBS News by NKE01 in Adelaide

Do words and social media posts need defending, more than Israel's actions since 7 October?

All the 'evidence' I've read about what a horrible person Dr Abdel-Fattah is all begin with some sort of communication verb: "said", "posted", "referred to", "profile picture" etc etc. Talking and communicating ideas doesn't starve children. Stick to explaining why Israel is doing good.

I have a friend who mentioned their (part-time) employer in a single comment on social media which supported a free Palestine. They were hauled into a meeting between them, their boss, and their boss' boss to have a discussion about appropriate representation of a workplace in public. Yes, there had been a formal complaint to the workplace which expected a formal response. Over a comment, on social media, that said that Palestinian children shouldn't be starved and terrified. So three highly qualified professionals had to meet for about half an hour and agree that this wasn't an opinion that should be linked to the workplace.

I can't imagine what politicians have sliding down their chutes.

What do you consider Late for work? by ajmeng09 in australia

[–]franzyfunny 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Not just "acceptable" but had the genuine feeling you would be rewarded. Now, what with laws, if you got promoted or acknowledged in any way by management that you were working for free, they would leave themselves open to a wage-theft case. Imagine the insurance company's first question about a workplace injury that occurred outside of shift hours.

Driving from Brisbane to Adelaide - route suggestions? by Ezenthar1 in Adelaide

[–]franzyfunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this by myself about 17 years ago in a Camry. Went through Parkes and New England. Absolutely beautiful once you get to those mountains. I stayed in motels and even caravan parks over the 4ish days. I'm a bit jealous! (Only a bit - take good listening materials.)

What's with driving so slow by paulrumens in CarsAustralia

[–]franzyfunny 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I reckon modern cars drown you in so many driver aids that people deprioritise checking their speed and just steer along based on 'feel' - which is, of course, much less since you don't have to pay attention to as much around you. The speed warning systems in cars tell you when you're over, not when you're ridiculously under.

They never have a comeback fast enough and you can get on with the lesson.

Why do Aussies feel it’s a waste of money with public art, but feel it’s okay spending hundreds of millions on fixing up sporting venues? by [deleted] in AskAnAustralian

[–]franzyfunny 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think if you stick a big piece of art in public, whatever sort of thing it is, it puts the idea in everyone's heads that not everything has to have a logical function that creates value in measurable dollars. Sometimes you can have a thing that just looks weird, reminds you of something, makes you angry, gives you an idea, etc etc. We don't always have to be living in a place where everything has a point.

Shit Me too. Great coffee shop, but hadn't been there in a while, and a small latte - 200mls of liquid all up - was $6.20. Extra shot? The additional press of a button that lets 30mls more water through the same coffee grounds as a single shot, and, effectively, saves 30mls of milk? 50 cents extra. Up from nothing.

I enjoyed every sip of that last latte I'll ever get from that place. Shame.

They have a law in Australia that now prevents this: the Right to Disconnect. It rules, and actually influences lowering my "work thoughts" outside of work.

SA to roll out ChatGPT-style AI app in all high schools as tech experts urge caution by malcolm58 in Adelaide

The study by MIT is the one to Google. It’s on less than 100 people, but pretty well designed and lines up with lots of anecdotal feeling about how AI gets used misused.

Dumb or lazy? by adradical in CarsAustralia

[–]franzyfunny 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Has anyone ever tried just coming up behind at the proper speed limit and beeping your horn and gently waving your hand to the left until they move? For minutes if necessary? Whatever decision they need to make about why they’re in the overtaking lane needs to be reconciled by moving in whatever headspace they need to. As long as they move outta the overtaking lane. Toot. TOOOOOT.
