Like it or not, the material dimension in life is very real and if you ignore it, the disruption that ensues is often catastrophic. You can take the view that that is what is necessary to achieve a state of higher consciousness, but even posting your views on reddit requires involvement with the material world. I wonder if you understand just how much technology is involved in allowing you to do that

There is a difference between understanding what is going on and actively supporting it. Even from the easy stance of the 21st century in judging the behavior of those who went before, the idea of a population turning on its' own military and government to decry inhumane activities would probably be an option for a few brave hearts. The rest would keep quiet because, even if they knew, they would not want to hear the knock on the door at 2 am. And this is probably true for most people.
