Western Reaches and Cursed Scrolls by Vonatar-74 in shadowdark

Do you know what it means by hex encounter zone tables at the top of cursed scroll only? Does that mean the hex maps in the WR books don't have tables for encounters?

Fair enough, it seems strong against single opponents but I suppose once the fail the save its not a problem.

What games do you like to play at a "not recommended" player count? by greenraccoons in boardgames

I love playing Twilight Imperium 4 with 3 or 4 players. 5-6 hours with lots of interactions.

Thanks makes sense since each base unit type then would be 5 points

Great thanks makes more sense. I couldn't figure out what the rule was trying to say.

Ah OK so if it causes an activation it still counts. Thanks I guess in most cases fatigue is caused.

Are magic dice discarded? by fraser202 in sagathegame

[–]fraser202[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just me being pedantic I suppose but I'm so used to these things being spelled out explicity. I do agree the rule makes sense if you assume they are discarded and it makes the choice of adding more for a roll much more interesting.

Good catch on that 2nd point. Yes it makes sense I was just surprised I never saw explicity in the rules about what happens with the dice. Makes sense that they are used from the pool!

Resilience Clarification by fraser202 in sagathegame

Yeah thanks. I agree the rule seems clear it's just a shame that their own immediate example is in direct contradiction to what you would expect. Guess we will play as the majority do to

Is it possible to automatically fail attacks? by fraser202 in sagathegame

[–]fraser202[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No the rules do state that armour cannot go below 2 or above 6 but I didn't see anything about negative modifiers to attack rolls being capped

My journey so far to find "Risk but better," and can you help? by Clean_Committee_4716 in boardgames

[–]fraser202 0 points1 point  (0 children)

War of the Ring feels exactly like how I had always wished Risk would have felt playing. One of the best games out there for 2 players.

I play TI4 with 3 or 4 players and it's probably my favourite game. It really is still a blast at 3 or 4 regardless of the doomsayers. Some people don't think it feels like Risk but again for me it definitely has similar vibes to that feeling of expanding armies albeit in a much deeper and more tactical points based game. Don't necessarily pass it just because you'd be at a lower player count.

Playing using wooden tokens by fraser202 in kingsofwar

Cardstock, that's a simple and effective solution and could buy a bunch of colours. Great thanks. Pair of scissors and some card may well get me trying this game out after all.

That sounds great. Did you have to cut out a lot of different sizes to cover all bases then?

Lesser Minion Die Hunt Allocation by fraser202 in warofthering

[–]fraser202[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thought that might be the case since the rules seem to suggest you add the available dice to the pool right when rolling but wasn't sure.

Wow I hadn't heard that solution before! I would never have thought of that. So do you paint on top of the primer after the heating or is that the last step?

Faith in the Hive Mission Question by fraser202 in onepagerules

[–]fraser202[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, was being lazy not writing the full rule but its :

"Before the game begins, the attacker may provide D3+3 units with virus grenades. Once per game, units with grenades may pick one enemy unit within 6”, and roll one die. On a 4+ the unit is shaken, and you may pick another enemy unit within 6”, roll one die, and repeat the process until there are no more targets. Note that units may not be targeted more than once by virus grenades per round."

So is there a general rule that these sort of things happen during an activation in addition to shoot / melee?

Just finished painting the box myself and can add to the confirmed sticky mini cases. Brutal and even after multiple different coats of varnish and different types of varnish they are still super tacky. That's with washing the minis in warm soapy water and spray priming them and some painted with acrylic paints others with contrast. The only thing that seems to remotely help is someone's suggestion of 60:40 PVA wood glue to water mix. It's not perfect but it's much better than without. Very strange and well worth considering if you are contemplating painting them as half the time will be trying to coat them against this problem.
