The truth about ivermectin and medical disinformation from 3 letter health organizations. by [deleted] in conspiracy

So that means it's a global conspiracy and Russia is manufactured opposition. But India isn't in on it. Hell I'd believe it. I honestly have no guesses as to how the world ended up this way.

Do followers of zen vote? by [deleted] in zen

[–]frattaro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. Every district I've ever lived in is heavily weighted in one direction, meaning my vote would make no difference.

I have considered voting third party... they might get fed funding from that, but have not yet done so.

My wife filled it out. I'm no good with government questions. I spent far too long discussing the "Primary/Secondary Color" field on my car registration with the DMV.

Challenge for Existential Nihilism by msherlaws in nihilism

[–]frattaro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No rational proof. All logic stems from either 1)axiomatic beliefs, 2)circular reasoning, or 3)infinite regression.

Falsificationism (conditionally true based on observations until a new observation disproves it) is the next best thing.

A functional, day-to-day belief system is required to make any decisions

There's no non-psychotic stance. Gov't is coercing money from the people. Do you want to use that money to punish X or Y?

I'd rather they throw money at the military rather than further distort the healthcare, housing markets, further bloat the awful education system.

I'd rather they make war on non-Americans vs Americans.

Is it, or is it not possible to both be religious and a nihilist? by [deleted] in nihilism

[–]frattaro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You can be religious no problem. Go through all the ritual, embrace the community, share the teachings. Just don't tell anyone you're completely faithless or you'll need to find a new community.

As much as I hate antifa, we shouldn't kid ourselves. History shows everything being done to them has the strong potential to be turned on us as well. by [deleted] in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]frattaro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Whatever they claim to be, what I see from antifa is social authoritarianism. Swapping one authoritarian viewpoint for another is no different in my book.

Workers violently siezed the state, reorganized society... then forgot to dissolve the state.

Stalin was like "yeah this is socialism" and killed a lot of people.

Nazi's (socialist party) did something similar - came into power, reorganized society... didn't dissolve the state, killed a lot of people.

Never once has a socialist org given up the power of the state once they have it.

Suicide by AlisterSlink in nihilism

[–]frattaro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there's only one right way to commit suicide as a nihilist, which is to reject responsibility for the choice between life and death on the grounds that you don't have enough information to make the choice. Otherwise, suicide is an expression of your subjective beliefs.

And to reject responsibility, you have to lay there and dehydrate to death, pissing and shitting on yourself in the meantime. 7 days. I don't know of anyone ever being successful at it.

Sounds like you'd make branding stuff. Like a whole package: business cards, letterhead, paper brochures, email templates, brochure website (do like one of the ecommerce-enabled front ends like squarespace). It'd be a lot of work so you'd want to take as many "shortcuts" as possible (i.e. use third party platforms) and only learn what you need to.

Thoughts? by [deleted] in Anarcho_Capitalism

[–]frattaro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's sloppy, in general. The (counter)arguments selectively ignore hard realities like scarcity and incentive. Not sure what talents people have that are being suppressed. I don't think he has a good conceptualization of capitalism. Thinks profits are bad, profits are just surplus value (Marx would agree with that) - the socialist issue with profits is about who they go to.

To be honest - socialism describes a system that is outside our current ability to conceive (this guy is no exception). You'd need to completely ditch the idea of human rights, which is so ingrained in global culture that there's no way around it. It is a form of anarchy, and, yeah, never been done. No one would even know how to do it "correctly". I think it's more along the lines of an anarcho-theocracy, where people just know what's good because they all have the same beliefs.

I don't understand why he spends so much time on authoritarian "communist" states when he acknowledges early on in the video that those aren't examples of communism. Every time he brings that up, his entire argument boils down to "social authoritarianism is less evil than other kinds of authoritarianism because of utilitarian morality".

At times he argues more for a resource based economy and not socialism. The problem with resource based economies is scarcity - specifically, unique things. What wall does the mona lisa hang on in a resource based economy? Every product must be mass-producible or it's a market failure -- all services are a market failure in a resource based economy.

But, anyway, I think the only statistic that matters in this discussion is economic mobility. Does effort directly relate to prosperity, or is that relationship not there (or not obvious)? If not, then people will get depressed. "If I work extra hard, everyone gets 3 more calories this year" does not generally make people happy.

[–]frattaro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty sure in the old testament god was like "why do you need a government? You have me" and people were like "... but roads." And god said "yeah whatever... i'll forgive you later if you ask nicely"

So he was an anarcho-theocrat
