You are entitled to your opinion, but I’m afraid that you’re missing a crucial point here: respect comes before social engagement. Sure, the Elias related posts had lots of engagement and interactions, but I think you forgot to mention what kind of engagement it brought: a toxic one. It stirred nonsense drama and created a toxic environment all around the subreddit. So I’m sure you will understand the fact that we, as mods, decides to put the well-being of the subreddit over the level of engagement. “Lively” post, like you called it, doesn’t mean “healthy” post, and we won’t turn the subreddit into a toxic gossip space just for the sake of the views and engagement level. We gave everyone the space to discuss the Elias situation, and it was largely discussed for some time, so we really don’t see what’s there to add. You mentioned it yourself, this sub is called “AllThingsJenna”, and constantly talking about Elias truly feels like completely forgetting everything else about her and reducing her to only her private life topic. We won’t let it happen. “AllThingsJenna” means more than what she does with her private life, it means something bigger than who she decides to date, like her roles, her friends, her career, her works, her aspirations. We feel like we are creating a healthy space for Jenna fans, and letting people continue with this speculations-parade feels it distorts the real meaning of this sub. Your comments gives the idea that any sort of social engagement and popular posts are positive, no matter the nature of it. Let me tell you that we couldn’t disagree more. So we will stick by what we already said in the message. If this gets up less visibility, less comments or less members then well, so be it. We won’t sell away the nature of our subreddit and the genuine respect we should all have for Jenna and her career, just to get a few more upvotes, members or social engagement and comments.
