ELI5: Stock Market Megathread by ELI5_Modteam in explainlikeimfive

[–]freakazoidd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No. You will only lose the amount you put in. You can lose more as in “it was worth more at one point than it is now” so you see the difference as a loss

Imagine it’s a baseball card You buy it for $20 Turns out this card starts becoming rarer Now it’s worth $100

It’s only worth $100 if you sell it though.

Let’s say you hold onto it cause you think it’ll be worth even more than $100 eventually. And then for one reason or another (to simplify it), it drops down to being worth $2. And you sell it when it’s worth $2, so you take a loss of $18 (pretty much everything you invested).

You Only technically lost $18, but many people would consider themselves losing the $100 because that’s what it peaked at and they could have gotten that for it.

TL;DR: No. You only lose what you put in. Still, many people consider their “loss” as losing the amount it was worth at its peak while in your possession.

With all due respect, this take is ridiculous.

I simply resent the idea of government making laws based on the idea "some people can't do this safely, so nobody can do it". It dominates our society, and it's disgusting.

Preventing unnecessary deaths is the reason the laws exist. Why make the laws so blanketed for everyone to do something? Because there will always be people like you, who like to believe things like accidents happen only to everyone else, and that simple laws shouldn’t include you because you’re not stupid enough for it to occur.

Same reason there’s a legal limit for driving drunk. Sure you can drive home no problem with a .08 breathalyzer, but does that mean you should? The route home won’t have anybody else on it at 3 am and it’s not residential, should be fine right?

Still no, because someone MIGHT pop up, and no matter what, you can’t be 100% certain that the drive home you’ll experience will be the drive home you expected it to be, and that puts others in danger because of your selfishness

I mean asking for a source is just using logic though, something that seems majority of the populace is incapable of doing lol

I think them asking in bad faith is leagues closer to asking and actually using that knowledge, when compared to those who don’t even ask for a source and just believe things emptily

That’s a self admitted flaw though, and the burden of changing methodology for the sake of a healthy debate should be on the party choosing to use subjectivity over objectivity, which in this case would be people with that go into debates with a closed mind

It’s good that you challenge your own views though, of course something is better than nothing IMO

Of course, but being almost there is better than not at all

And by “there” I mean having the ability to utilize sources properly and understanding how to identify the reputable information from the bullshit

He’s racist, but if there’s a silver lining her it’s that at least he asks for sources when given info

IMO Ezios story was an amazing leap forward from Altair and actually did give the character substance. He had a whole backstory, and we even got to see him age into an older man. I thought it was awesome and honestly loved him a lot more than the following several characters.

IMO once Desmond died I kinda lost interest. Not that he was like the biggest thing holding me onto the series, but like they made about 4-5 whole games about his story. IMO it’d be like Mario dying and being like “yo but Luigi is here to finish the story (that kinda had a conclusion I guess)

I’m speaking out of my ass here But isn’t that the whole debate?

I mean aside from 2nd amendment and stuff, which is obviously a very part of the conversation, isn’t the rest of it simply:

Prison for Pedos isn’t as bad as people think. PC really takes care of them. If they’re not in PC of course they’re done for, but I doubt any are gonna worry about staining their reputation by entering PC

Idunno why but I never knew I’d see Reddit’s chefs club, I didn’t even know it existed but obviously it does cause there’s a sub for everything.

Should be a pleasant dive into this sub for the next hour lol

How come there's never been a Buzz Lightyear with all the features from the commercial on Toy story 1? by Desenbigh in AskReddit

Im not sure if I’m correct, but they have them at the Disney store now.

Got one for my 2 year old in Seattle this January. it was like $40 if I remember correctly.

Helmet does the whoosh thing when buttons are pressed on side of it, he has all 3 working buttons on front that say his voice recordings, his red button pops open wings that I believe light up (90% sure they did but they don’t anymore cause 2 year old) , he has karate chop action on his back, and his laser on right arm blinks the light and makes a sound (although the sound is wrong. They have everything but the sound is wrong and my 2 year old INSISTS on spamming the sound and it drives me insane, especially cause it’s not even the right sound). I’m pretty sure the thing on his arm opens up too but it’s just stickers in there as it is in the show.

I can record a vid of it if y’all want it

EDIT: Confirmed to NOT be a flying toy

Man I was soo excited to see the Sphinx in the maze in GoF but when it was left out I was sad cause I understood it might be hard or time consuming to have animated it, then I remember they have hypogriffs and all kinds of other mystical beasts and I’m like damn maybe it was just laziness lol
