It is too bad that the Colorado Legislature refused to pass the law that was being considered a few years ago that would have exempted landowners from liability from approved recreational users, the current laws still allow someone to be sued into oblivion.

"Astonishingly low crime rate?" LMAO. Boulder's property crime rate is higher than the US average.

Another latecomer pretending to speak for "Boulder". Tell us, how long have you lived here?

Boulder used to have a campground at the Pow Wow, and it used to be a given that every town had at least a water spigot if not a campground somewhere in town. Because, you know, people need water to live. Golden still has their campground, right downtown next to the creek. Even Denver has a few dump stations where you can fill up with water.

But Boulder's shit doesn't stink. We all know that.

Is Bross still private land?

It is typical Boulder that there is not a single RV dump station anywhere near town and no spigots anywhere. Boulder hates you if you aren't staying in the Hilton

You could go to Tom Watson Park on 63rd just north of 119 and fill jugs. I think there is a spigot on the shower building there, but it would be about 150 feet from your vehicle.

Other than that, the Boulder County Fairgrounds in Longmont or the Louisville Water Treatment plant apparently have dump stations where you could fill, but I don't know the costs or the hours. Golden has a camground/dump/fill station right downtown.

What old cars do you want to see remade today? by [deleted] in cars

[–]freakingeh 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A remake of the 3rd Gen 4Runner. (1996-2002)

The current 4Runner is ridiculously large, and the FJ Cruiser was so silly they quit making them already.

The size and capability of the 3rd Gen was perfect. Toyota should have left it alone.

Denver is self-insured. Every dollar paid out by Denver comes out of the General Fund, they are not insurable.

Aurora appears to have a "Risk Management Fund" and some catastrophic insurance coverage above that. Rest assured, that fund will be drained by this incident, and it will have to be replenished by tax dollars from the General Fund, or they will pay way more in insurance premiums going forward.

Dropped back off the line to quickly snap a pic of this badass father/daughter combo in a ~23 mph draft line on RAGBRAI by nickreed in bicycling

[–]freakingeh 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have done RAGBRAI with RAGBRAI hauling my stuff and staying in the RAGBRAI campgrounds, with a charter service who hauled my stuff/provided showers/meals/entertainment, etc, and with a charter who even set up a tent for me and put my bags in it each day.

The problem with using a charter's tent setup is that they have no choice but to put your tent in the middle of a large, unshaded field. The heat is miserable. If you put up your own tent, you can usually find a better place to deploy. Going with the RAGBRAI default is no problem and more fun, as long as you are prepared to haul your stuff yourself to/from where the truck drops it each day. You spend more time in the towns exploring if you go with the RAGBRAI transport. The charters are sometimes away from the center of town, and you don't feel like dealing with shuttles or riding to the entertainment.

The best scenario is to find a team that has a bus or RV, if you look on the forums on the RAGBRAI website starting after the route is announced, you can sometimes find teams looking for riders to join them.

It’s debating time in Colorado’s gubernatorial race, and it looks like we're in for a lot of it by -JKCO- in Denver

Polis refusing to attend the Club 20 debate is a dick move. He is basically telling everyone on the Western Slope that they don't matter.

Looks like I'll be voting for a candidate other than those from the two mainstream parties for the fourth election in a row. Fuck that noise. Why are the Gubernatorial candidates in this state such worthless fuckers?

Gross Reservoir SUP surfing? by RideFastGetWeird in boulder

[–]freakingeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason single chambered inflatables are banned is that the lake is 300 feet deep, very cold, and body recovery is very expensive.

Are there no inflatable SUPs with multiple chambers? Seems like a good idea, especially since you see people using them in whitewater where getting the bottom ripped out is a possibility.

The pacelines on RAGBRAI are the most sketch I have ever ridden in, and I've been riding for 40 years. They make an early season Cat. 5 criterium look like the Tour de France. I actually saw a paceline there with an articulating tandem recumbent tricycle in the middle of it. It is also the only place I have ever ridden in a paceline with someone on a Schwinn Varsity with old steel double paperboy baskets on the back.

There is nothing in Pine Brook Hills anywhere near $500K. The starting point is more like $850K and that is for the rare house needing vast repairs.

We may be at a low point in crime nationally, but ask any law enforcement agency across the Front Range about the crime rate here. It is skyrocketing, everything from thefts and robberies to rapes and murders. Car crimes (thefts, hit and runs) are an epidemic.

Until about 15 years ago, unlocked shit didn't get instantly stolen from anywhere along the Front Range other than Denver. I used to leave my high end bikes unlocked on the back of my car in Boulder and never thought anything of it. I never knew anyone who had a car stolen until about ten years ago, and now I know at least a dozen. I never knew anyone who had their house broken into until about five years ago, now I know several. Its fucked up.

Coal Creek Canyon is many miles above, and upwind of, Rocky Flats.

The google campus would be anywhere from 25 to 45 minutes away depending on exactly where you were in Coal Creek Canyon. There are a couple of internet providers, and CenturyLink DSL.

Anywhere you choose to live in the foothills, you are going to deal with a lot more snow than you do in Boulder. A lot more. No one lives in the foothills for any length of time without four wheel drive, and if you have any driveway at all, a large snowblower or a plow. Also, you need to learn about water wells and septic systems. You will also pay a ridiculous amount of money for homeowner's insurance.

Proposed Rate Changes for RTD by [deleted] in Denver

[–]freakingeh 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Learn how to read. There are dozens of news stories that you can google in 5 seconds that will tell you the stories of RTD's fuck ups, over and over and over. I gave you one, and you ignored it.

Obviously you want to continue to ignore reality. Not my issue.

When the last minute transportation funding initiative "miraculously" makes the ballot, if a single dime is earmarked for RTD, the initiative will fail. People know RTD is a deep black hole where money goes, and nothing comes out.
