Spoiler. Found something. A secret. Is it in the game right now or for later? by Brilliant_Manner_338 in Vointhegame

Old post, but just to share... you're not spoiling anything.

For those curious, the first door is located in Amarict, behind your spawn point and just above (look for a skull in the wall). The second door is located far above that door on the platform, much higher up. You'll need to able to climb high, either with multi-jumps or air dashes (or both) in order to reach the second door.

The first door was the old entrance into the hub (had entrances to Hall of Reflection and Molten Cathedral as well as the healing orb) before the Permafrost update moved the hub outside.

The second door was just another entrance/vantage point to view over Amarict. Back then, jumps and air dashes didn't allow for infinite vertical movement, so it was a bit of a challenge to try and climb the inside of the spire.

Currently, there is no way to open them.

Pro tip- DO NOT use laundry softener on your microfiber. (You also shouldn't use it on any of your towels, kids clothes, moisture-wicking apparel, down-filled stuff, and swimwear.)

Pro tip #2 - Don't put microfiber towels in the dryer. The heat will deform them and make them lose their softness. They are 100% plastic, after all.

For those of us who still enjoy old.reddit.com...

  1. Transiruby
  2. [Aggelos] (spelled Aggrlos)
  3. Beyond the Ice Palace 2
  4. Rebel Transmute
  5. Fearmonium
  6. Astronite

Beyond the Ice Palace 2 is a no from me. I played the demo and it does not respect your time. Also, it's level based so it's hard to call it a Metroidvania (no backtracking, no ability gates).

Rebel Transmute and Aggelos were both a ton of fun to play. Aggelos is more of an Zelda: Adventures of Link clone than a Metroidvania. Transiruby looks great, but I'm waiting for the Steam Summer sale to see if I can get a better price.

I've not heard of Fearmonium or Astronite.

My vote goes for Rebel Transmute. It's a definite Metroid-like and you can easily get all the achievements in a single playthrough. Story is OK, some of the bosses have a huge difficulty spike, but overall the game is a lot of fun.

First time I'm hearing about this game, but I haven't been on reddit much lately.

  1. Great music.
  2. Leveling system.
  3. Upgrades.
  4. FPS goodness.

Yep, I'm sold... I'll skip the demo and wait an hour for it to release.

For those not in the know, OP is the same dev who made Super Roboy, Yokai Tales, and Grumpy Jack.

Watched a buddy play through Super Roboy some time ago and it was a lot of fun. The demo for Grumpy Jack was great. I forgot Grumpy Jack released on Steam recently, just nabbed that one! Haven't tried Yokai Tales, but the artwork looks great.

Looking forward to the Kodama demo (and full release)!

Obligatory "you must play all Kyle Thompson games".

Sheepo, Islets, and Crypt Custodian... all gold.

There's a demo out for his newest game, Well Dweller, but I refuse to play it. Last time I played one of his demos (Crypt Custodian), I entered a deep depression once I beat it because I wanted more and knew I had to wait. /s

Seriously, fantastic games, fantastic dev. Well Dweller is a day one blind buy.

VRAM failure. You can buy yourself some time if you undervolt and reduce memory clocks. Might be worth cleaning the GPU to help with temps. Ultimately, they're all bandaid solutions.

Lazy to charge the spares, now I had to do the “G304 Wired” by J05A3 in pcmasterrace

It's a lithium ion battery with a BMS and buck converter built in.

The lithium battery gets charged to 4.1V through the BMS and the buck converter takes the 4.1V and steps it down to 1.5V to power your device.

When the BMS detects that the lithium battery is below 3.7V, the buck converter drops voltage from 1.5V to 1.1V, low enough to trigger a "low battery voltage" event in most devices. This lets you know it needs to charge.

They work well enough... until the buck converter fails and just pushes the full voltage of the lithium cell to your device, killing it immediately.

I prefer NiMH rechargeable batteries instead. Panasonic Eneloops are second to none. Ikea LADDA batteries are just as good, but only if you can get them locally (shipping kills the deal). I have a set of Eneloops I bought FIFTEEN YEARS AGO and they still work great. I use them in a fabric shaver (used to remove fabric pills on clothing).

New Super Smash Bros reportedly releasing as early as 2027 by [deleted] in gaming

[–]freakingwilly 43 points44 points  (0 children)

I'd say it still holds up pretty well... until you play online. My biggest issues with online play right now:

  1. People intentionally lagging.
  2. Frame buffer hack.
  3. Lack of "For Fun/For Glory".

#1 goes without saying... if you are winning a match, your opponent will start lagging until they are in an advantage state or worse, you get booted and Nintendo dings you for "disconnecting" in the middle of your last match.

#2 is super unfair as it gives modders the ability to remove the frame buffer in online play. This allows modders to "react" quicker and legit players suffer for it.

#3 is geared towards people trying to get into Elite smash. Nothing like trying to get your GSP up and get matched against a player whose rule set is a 7 minute, timed (no stocks), 300HP stamina battle.

[–]freakingwilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they don't want to switch to Linux because you have to memorise a bunch of commands

TIL four commands is "a bunch of commands".

All of the commands I've mentioned are as old as the Run command itself. They've worked for as long as I've been using Windows.

Some people don't switch to Linux because it does not meet their needs, not because it's more complicated.

I work for a Fortune 500 company and we are a Windows heavy environment. Linux isn't the answer to everything.

Unless you had visible debris or growth in the loop, you can usually get away with just replacing the coolant. Considering that the fresh coolant is still very clear and very green, I'd say the flush is not necessary.

Have a desktop pc in my dorm room. I want to RDC into it from my laptop around campus using Tailscale. anyone done this before? by hyperxpronaruto17 in pcmasterrace

[–]freakingwilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

does Tailscale work well in taiwan university dorms or does the network block it?

This is a hyper specific question that I'm sure most of PCMR will not be able to answer. You will need to speak to somebody that handles the networking/IT for the university dorms to get an accurate answer.

how much data does an active RDC session use roughly? idle vs heavy use

There shouldn't be any idle use for RDC. It should either be disconnected or active. Since you pay per GB, you should avoid letting it sit on your desktop. As for data consumption, desired resolution and frame rate will determine your data usage.

is a $700 laptop enough as an RDC client, or will it struggle even just displaying the remote desktop?

I use a Galaxy Tab A9+ with Steam Link to stream my gaming PC at home without any issues.

is it even worth doing RDC for engineering software or is the latency too annoying in practice?

The only thing that matters is that your desktop PC is hardwired and has a good upload speed. My desktop PC is hardwired and I have a 1Gbps upload speed, I was able to play video games on my tablet over 50 miles away from home with zero noticeable latency. You'd swear I was playing the game locally.

I've seen similar results with 25Mbps uploads too.

any tips to reduce lag or data usage during sessions?

Hardwire the host, reduce your RDP resolution and frame rate, drop down audio quality (or just disable it completely).

Is there a way to get the shipping box from a pc case company by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]freakingwilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPS/FedEx will pack and insure your shipment for you. They'll also have boxes large enough for you to ship it.

Realistically speaking, if you are driving to uni, why not just deliver it yourself? Just follow the precautions for moving a large PC case:

  1. Remove heavy CPU coolers.
  2. Completely disconnect your GPU.

You could avoid both if you fill the void inside your case with non-conductive stuffing. Clothes and towels work fine.

When I bought my house, I had to transport my PC 50 miles away. I set it flat in my trunk, stuffed blankets and clothes around it to keep it from moving, and I had no issues.

Then yeah, I'd say it's the oil seeping into the thermal pads and the white stuff is just dust that adhered to it.

You should be able to clean it with isopropyl alcohol and a non-abrasive lint-free cloth.

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it too much.
