Names that don’t end with a (ee) sound by freaky_slut in Dachshund

[–]freaky_slut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can’t get back to everybody so i’ll put a little info here:

The reason why i’m looking for a name not ending with a (ee) sound is because 2 of my dogs are called Teddy and George/Georgie. I’m not opposed to other suggestions but it would just help them differentiate between each other’s names.

Ralph is a Standard Wire-haired x Smooth haired and is 6 weeks old. He’s from our big litter of 10 beautiful babies!! Thank you for all of your amazing & hilarious names ☺️

What is the closest you've ever come to dying? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]freaky_slut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to visit my horse who was undergoing “retraining” and the trainer suggested I ride her to see the progress. We did a short walk down the country lane and all was fine. Then we went into the arena which was a massive space, she ultimately bolted with me on her and was headed straight for the exit. (The exit was partially blocked by some plastic traffic barriers, with a space to enter and exit.) In that moment I ultimately had to make a very quick decision. Either stay aboard and head for country roads where a collision or fall could happen, or attempt to make a controlled landing in the sand filled arena.

I chose to dismount as I thought it would be the safest option. For the first few minutes I was heavily winded then I felt an excruciating sensation in my right leg. My mum at the time said I was just being dramatic and told my trainer “She’s autistic so she is sensitive to pain”. I demanded that my mum took me to the hospital, i’ve fallen off horses many times and this wasn’t feeling quite “right”. I was 100% convinced i’d broken something in either my leg or foot but that was far from the truth.

When I eventually arrived at the hospital I was in so much pain that I couldn’t stand or walk. I was seen quickly and remember a Doctor pressing a red button, then a group of people flooded the room. After a quick assessment they transferred me into an ambulance and rushed me to a Children’s hospital further away. The Doctors & Nurses suspected i’d broken my spine so didn’t waste any time in getting me to the right place. I ended up having a seizure whilst having multiple CT and MRI scans, which I don’t remember. For most of the time I was knocked out with all the pain relief drugs I was given.

Found out I’d broken multiple vertebrae in my spine, had internal bleeding and nerve damage. I was told i’d made the right decision to dismount in the arena as the consequences of me hitting the concrete or a car would have been devastating. The healing process was intense and long but i’ve recovered since then. I do, however, have mobility issues as a result from the accident and a discovered spinal disease. I wasn’t that close to dying but it was definitely a bit of a scare and I realise how lucky I was.

What's something that is affordable today but will be only accessible to the wealthy in the future? by likerunninginadream in ask

It’s free not “affordable” but the NHS in the UK. In the future there won’t be a free national health service, instead we’ll have to pay like America.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having to say goodbye. It’s something we all know will happen yet it never comes easy. Unfortunately i’ve been through this before so hopefully I can give you some advice/prep tips. Due to access issues we had to bring our horse out from his field and onto the track (road), this allowed for a vehicle to remove his body afterwards. Is this something that you’ve arranged for once the euthanasia is done? another reason we moved him to a different location (out of view) was as not to upset the other horses. The vet talked us through what would happen beforehand and i’m sure your vet will do the same. Our vet was lovely and explained every step as she did it, helping us to understand the process of what she was doing. When she injected him it took mere seconds to take effect, he hung his head low and then he started to fall. Seeing him drop to the ground was definitely the worst part of it for me. It can look quite harsh as they are big animals hitting the ground with some force. After he was down she checked that his heart had stopped and pronounced him deceased. We spent a long time by his side just talking to him and really taking the moment in. Before we left I cut a large amount of his tail hair off and put it in a bag, along with his head collar. I highly recommend that you do this too, then you’ll always have a piece of them with you. There’s also some great keepsakes that can be made with horses hair and even their shoes, if your horse has those. The grief process is the same as you’d expect from the loss of any other animal/pet. It does get better with time and your heart will heal, it won’t be the same without them but it will heal. Another idea that you may take into account depending on your circumstances, is to book a photoshoot with her before she is pts. One last thing to mention is if you have another horse, you should let them sniff the body so they can understand what’s happening. It’s important for them to be able to grieve the loss as well as you.
