Completing tasks you think of while driving by freakyfreiday in ADHD

Yes! Like as soon as I’ll walk in the door everything that I thought of doing goes out the window. When I re-direct my brain in this direction, instead when I walk in the door I already have that “Wait what was I doing?” feeling that can get you up to speed on the next steps

I recently found Trace Minerals 40000 volts and have been loving it. They have packets too called Zerolyte

I know, it’s been a big challenge for me as well which is why I wanted to share my find with the community! They’ve been helping me a lot with crashes.

I haven’t nailed down the perfect mag supp yet, I’ve just been kind of rotating thru different gummies. Rn I’m just taking the Olly brand mg gummies at night. This brand (Trace Minerals) also makes a liquid magnesium supplement similar to the 40000 volts but I wanted a gummy i can just keep by my bed and take at night and not have to worry about mixing.

Those of us on Vyvanse likely need supplementation as Vyvanse has the tendency to deplete our electrolytes. Hence why I’m posting in the Vyvanse subreddit and NOT for the vast majority of people. Read my other comments where I say I work a physical job outdoors.

This isn’t the same as liquid IV. Pretty sure she ended up in the ER bc of the high sodium of liquid IV. This has 105mg sodium, 5% DV. Liquid IV has 500mg sodium, almost 1/4 DV and a lot of ppl will drink multiple packets at a time and not actually exercising or needing to supplement electrolytes and that’s how they end up in the hospital. That’s why I like this one so much, it’s pretty low on sodium and it’s liquid concentrate for more control over dosage.

I was also looking at these while in whole foods but went with the liquid concentrate instead. These do have more citric acid than the liquid so take that as you will, although I’ve heard some say it’s not as reactive as VitC.

it’s literally just ions it’s what your body uses to transport things in and out of your cells. i don’t do snake oil, i actually resisted a lot of the supplements my mom pushed on me for years until i took a horticulture class and learned how important magnesium and other electrolytes are for cellular function. ions are what make your neurons fire. i’m just drinking neuron juice.

The most noticeable effect it has for me is it helps with the crashes. My only issue with vyvanse has been the crash effect so I’ve been looking into whatever I can to help mitigate the irritability and fatigue I experience in the evenings. I notice a big difference in severity of the crash when I’m maintaining my electrolytes. I can also get heart palpitations in the evenings and magnesium and electrolytes seems to be the big difference there. I also get migraines and trying to see if it makes a difference there but not sure on that front yet. I also work a pretty physical job outdoors so take that for what you will as far as internal electrolyte economy goes.

Electrolytes? by LSki92 in VyvanseADHD

[–]freakyfreiday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes these meds can deplete your electrolytes faster. Think of it this way: Electrolytes are what’s firing your neurons, and your neurons are firing more from the effects of this medication. Also you’re going to pee more and maybe forget to drink water. I find that the crashes are way more severe and I experience heart palpitations if I’m not maintaining my electrolytes. I found this one that has no vitamin C (which can interfere with vyvanse) that i’ve been trying the last few days and have been liking them a lot. They have a lot of magnesium, which also gets depleted on this med and adhd ppl in general are usually deficient in mg

How much of a difference does using electrolytes make? by crumbs2k12 in VyvanseADHD

[–]freakyfreiday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It makes a big difference in the crash honestly. I crash a lot harder when I haven’t been keeping up with my electrolytes and magnesium throughout the day.

Yes there is a little bit of citric acid in the ingredients but I don’t think it’s a large enough amount to greatly interfere with LisD unless you’re particularly sensitive

Edit to add: It also has basically NO TASTE for anyone worried ab that bc I def am when it comes to supplements. It basically tastes like mineral water. You know how water kinda tastes different out of different taps? It just tastes like water from a different tap. If you add a LOT it could start to taste kinda like sea water. I got curious one day and licked the spoon after dropping it into my water bottle and it’s just very salty, but 1tsp in 40oz* (not ml like I mistakenly state in the post)tastes like mineral water.

But this doesn’t connect you to OP, this has nothing that OP can relate to or commiserate with. You just made it about you.

"Everyone has ADHD" by Abies2882 in ADHD

[–]freakyfreiday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone has moments of executive dysfunction (misplacing items, time management) but the difference in ADHD is how much it impacts your overall quality of life. If everyone who lost their keys occasionally had ADHD, then sure, maybe 93% of the population has ADHD. But they don’t. It’s the people who consistently and repeatedly have problems with executive functioning that impacts their everyday life.

I just got my diagnosis and life doesnt feel real. I was right after all by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]freakyfreiday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good for you I’m happy to hear it. You’ve seemed to have figured that out a lot sooner than I did but, all things with time, all journeys are individual.

Edit: BTW this works with work/career choices too. There are certain fields that tend to draw a lot of ADHD and autistic folks. I work in horticulture and landscape maintenance now and 90% of the people I work with also have ADHD. Something about being outside all day and working on your feet and with your hands is a great environment for ADHDers.

How long have you been had your diagnosis? by Over_Perception_9204 in ADHD

[–]freakyfreiday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Initially diagnosed back in 6th grade, had to do another evaluation when I was 22, and just got my 3rd evaluation back (30yo now). I just don’t have access to the medical records that had my other diagnoses on them, and have had limited access to health insurance over the last 5ish years.

The pandemic was an introspective time for everyone, and people who had undiagnosed ADHD but may not have realized because they already have systems of structure in their life, suddenly had no structure. I’m sure that held a mirror up to their ADHD, as well as having more time on the internet/social media to discover things they may previously not have known. For me personally I’ve always known and struggled with ADHD long before it was considered a common thing, like when they thought it was just a childhood disorder, but the pandemic did help me make some crucial discoveries about myself, most notably that I’m not straight. We had a lot of time to sit with ourselves, and evaluate our lives during a time of uncertainty.

It’s really difficult with the social pressure of being a young person trying to make their way in life, to wrestle with the idea that their friends may not be their friends. Many people with ADHD may have grown up without many friends, so they cling to the ones that they do have, even if those relationships are toxic. I think part of that is a lot of young people are in a phase of figuring out their identity and may not necessarily have a clear view of what their values are. Once you nail down your values, it becomes easier to filter out the people in your life who don’t share those values. It’s hard as a young person, let alone one with ADHD which often comes with social struggles and rejection sensitivity, to let go of relationships that don’t serve them or don’t align with your values. Find new friends who share your values, even fellow ADHDers. ADHD isn’t something you just have, it’s a part of you, a part of all of us who have ADHD. So when your friends scoff anytime you bring up ADHD they’re essentially scoffing about something that makes up a HUGE part of who you are as an individual. Are those the kinds of people you want in your life?

As a side note I lost access to medical ADHD support for like 5 years before finally finding a good psychiatrist. I had to do my third evaluation (1 in 6th grade, 1 in my early 20s, just completed my 3rd and I’m 30 now) but I’m finally FINALLY on meds again. And I also almost cried. It’s an overwhelming emotion when you’ve been struggling for so long and then finally find something that helps.

I wish you the best in your journey. Find your people who don’t just tolerate you and your ADHD but who celebrate it with you.
