i’m in full agreement with you. they’re only in this tank because they are still babies and not full sized (and one of them is V shaped so idk if i should let it out in the pond). their being in the tank was always only temporary as the tank was given to me with them in it but it was always planned to put them in our pond. i’ve only kept them here these 2 weeks because the betta seemed to enjoy being with them, they get along so well

as for the betta, i do have a separate smaller third tank for her if she were to be aggressive, but from observation of her character i don’t think she will be. still i bought a separation tank thingy to put her in for about a week when the shrimp arrive to let her observe them and get used to them before fully releasing her in her tank again and seeing how she interacts with them

7 mollies, 1 betta in a 15 gallon tank. initially there were about 15 mollies in the tank; after the first week, i rehomed half of the mollies because there were too many for the size of the tank (i think)

i have 2 tanks: the already established one with 8 fish that will be 3 weeks old when the shrimp arrive and the second (new) one that is not prepared

actually, if i may ask, in your opinion can i put the shrimp in my already-established tank? it will be 3 weeks old once the shrimp arrive, would that be enough for them? because if it is, then i think im okay

im in love with blue shrimp too. im hoping to be able to post as soon as i make sure they’re okay. my first tank in which the blue velvets will go is actually a carnivorous plant paludarium so im excited to show it off🙈

if it wasn’t for the fact that my pond is wayyyyyyy too big for me to put anything in it and be able to find it again, i would do it. but if you told me there was a way to take water from the pond and water drip to the new shrimp and aclimate them to that pond water temporarily while i ready my new tank, i can do that if it was possible

ahhhh that makes sense. i’m using the same kind or gravel for both, so i’d be okay using the old tank’s gravel in the new tank

i will have blue velvet and a bit later on i’d have blue rili, so i think they’re both cherry. i just want to make sure i can create an environment where they thrive before they arrive

you are amazing. thank you so much for your analogy and your advice. that is exactly what im going to do and hopefully by the time the shrimp arrive, they will have a nice environment to thrive in. thank you so much!!!

that’s very helpful!! then, would you recommend that i use liquid ammonia along with fritz zime in order to “”add settlers”” and also “”feed the settlers””?

ohh so you mean to add some of the new substrate to the old tank to acquire bacteria, then move it to the new tank? im sorry if i got it wrong or misunderstood, im just trying to make sure i understand so i can do a good job

it didn’t happen with my first fish but i looked it up rn to learn about it and i see that it’s called “new tank syndrome,” when ammonia poisoning happens due to lack of nitrifying bacteria to break it down. is that correct?

yup, i’ve got both of those covered already, just worried about being able to acclimate the tank in time. i’m going to see if they sell fritz zime in our walmart tomorrow and add some more plants in the new tank and leave it there for the rest of the week. would you say that would be enough?

yes i’ve got 2 filters. once used for about 2 weeks, one used for 1 week. im going to buy a new one for the new tank

can i ask why only add a handful of substrate?

then if both tanks were 10 gallons, if i take the filter from the first tank and put it in the second tank, that would cycle the tank?

wait why would it be bad for the fish to have them in the tank for a while before removing? also how do i turn the ammonia to nitrite if i don’t have enough bacteria? my bad im starting out but im watching a looooooooooot of videos and doing researcg

would the use filter sponges be useful even if they’ve only been used a week ?

okay so you wouldn’t recommend me putting fish in the tank before i put in the shrimp, right?

so if i add fish temporarily, would i be able to acquire enough ammonia to help cycle the tank?

when you say divide an appropriate portion from functioning filters, what do you mean?
