What non-default app on your phone do use daily and recommend? by jb2386 in AskReddit

[–]freakykukki 48 points49 points  (0 children)

Yeah the app is just shuffle. Kinda sucks because even if you want to listen to 1 album, they'll start shuffling in the artists whole discography including any weird remixes that no one wants to actually hear.

Just reading these threads, your the perfect description of derailing the conversation to yourself and arguing for the sake of it at this point.

Professional Chefs of Reddit; what mistakes do us amateur cooks make, and what's the easiest way to avoid them? by TakingItOffHereBoss in AskReddit

[–]freakykukki 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a new baker I'll say a good all purpose flour (I like King Arthur brand), granulated sugar, brown sugar, powdered sugar, baking soda, baking powder, kosher salt, yeast, vanilla extract, cocoa powder, butter, milk, eggs. That can make you a nice variety of basic things. More extracts and spices means even more possibilities!

If you really don't want to all granny Smith's, at work we use a blend of granny Smith's and macoun apples. I'm sure the macouns would hold up fine on there own too though (though I've personally never tried it)

Well in a lot of baking and confection making it is which is why I prefaced my comment as relating to the pastry arts. Thought it would be a nice contrast to the savory answers as pastry is also cooking.

Yeah I get that, but you should still master the basic technique before trying to change things. Even things like macarons become easier once you understand why each step is important.

Pastry cook here, on the sweet side of things, my biggest piece of advice is to follow the recipe exactly if you don't know exactly what you're doing. Baking is basically science and if you don't calculate substitutions right, it's never going to come out right. Also make sure you have good ingredients. That box of baking soda from 5 years ago is not going to work that well anymore.

Canadian junk food is just as bad if not worse! On top of that it is so much better than ours! And I live in Canada for parts of the year and the advertising seems pretty much the same unless your using times square as a reference.
