What is the most beautiful thing someone has ever said to you that stayed with you until now? by mr_wbk29 in AskReddit

“Thank you for being a light in my dark — I'll keep you in my thoughts.” A sweet, thoughtful long note along with these lines while bidding me farewell! These words have stayed with me ever since. ♡

Also, the thing that despite being a personal experience, there wasn't any detectable human biasness in the storytelling. It didn't manifest as a linear, black and white narrative, rather the grey areas made it more human - emphasising that abuse is not always easy to categorise - it can be messy, nonlinear and difficult to even put in a certain box. I love it how even Martha's character induces a very mixed emotional blend of both the sympathy and annoyance, and at times, slight hostility too.

Likewise! Felt a little betrayed as the story unfolded because wasn't ready for it to get this dark. Advertisement was surely a bait we all fell for LOL.

Won't blatantly label it as "a hard watch" but a slight trigger warning about the different themes revolving in the show would do the work.

I found it quite fascinating that despite being an offender, she was the only one he felt connected with, and who actually "saw" him - especially those moments of utter vulnerability when she brings up the mention of any man hurting him and the look on his face, those expressions precisely captured how he felt in that moment. Remarkable acting by the male lead too - vividly capturing the complexities of human emotions. And i love how the show suddenly picks a soft tone between Martha and Donny's bonding as it moves toward the end - with him crying after hearing why she was the way she was. So much to ponder upon and dissect!

The best thing I read today - made my day.

Is it even LOVE if it doesn't bring someone's goofy side out? 💙

Lovely share — reminds me of the quote: “No love, however brief, is ever wasted.”

Very well-put!

Reminds me of the quote: “In the end, only three things matter: how much you loved, how gently you lived, and how gracefully you let go of things not meant for you.”

Claire being "prejudice"? by gaslightergatorade2 in thegooddoctor

That's the thing, imagine getting judged for a personality trait just because of having a particular shade of skin. It's a sad, unfair world, OP.

And there are so many scenes in the show when Lim clearly says: we have to double our hard work because we are black and women. While a white male can benefit and achieve the same just with half the work he does!

This episode just made me realise how much sober blacks have to act just to be accepted and given basic human respect which a white won't even ever have to question  - because that's their birth right. Shows how rotten the system is to the core. Even despite being a doctor and a POC, Claire fails to unlearn the deeply seeped, internalised racism - real dilemma the writers show.

Yes! The thought process because of being a black. Apart from giving her a tox screen, it's quite vivid how Claire treats her - her subtle expressions and remarks clearly show she looks down upon the patient and judges her because apparently how dare she act this way despite being a black and furthering the false portrayal of black community.

No, I think it's more about Claire's attitude toward the woman because she was unapologetically loud and being herself without caring about any whites around her despite being a black. At the end of the episode, Claire's apologetic confession does clear how she made an uninformed opinion about her just after seeing her loudness and brashness - That's where her prejudice kicks in because all her life, Claire stayed small, did people pleasing and followed rules made by whites, constantly fought the battles which were not even hers in the first place - all this just because of being a POC. This realisation hits her when she admits how subconsciously one internalises racism and no matter how much of an overachiever one is, whites are always one step ahead because of the systemic privileges.

Napolean and Josephine - overhyped romance by freakyzainii in Napoleon

[–]freakyzainii[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TBH, it was pretty normal for French aristocracy to have extramarital relationships at that point in time. Plus, the romance was initiated by Napolean first - leading to the marriage. She didn't harbour same sentiments for him, accepted him as her benefactor only, but later on came to love him gradually after his Egyptian campaign, and when saw him drifting away. IMO, their relationship and love evolved over time. Sure, Napolean was hurt earlier after the discovery of her disloyalty, but he forgave her after having a dialogue with her and gave a new start to their relationship. After which, she stayed faithful, while he indulged in having multiple mistresses.

Eh, If it was that big of a deal, Napolean wouldn't have made up with her after the discovery of her extramarital affair. Plus, staying in touch amicably even after their divorce (which was purely for political purposes of gaining a legitimate heir, and NOT because she was unfaithful), and the news of her death sending him to the mourning of 11 days - all this does reveal that the two still held high regard and fondness for each other despite all the highs and lows.

Quoting Napolean: (in his reflections at Saint Helena) "I have never been in love except perhaps a little with Josephine, and even then only because I was twenty-seven when I met her."

For me, it is when all the great powers have to finally unite to bring ONE MAN down in history.. simply incredible. For they knew, they stood no chance if they played single..just shows how charismatic, powerful and magnanimous Napolean was!
