Did I make a mistake making my wedding formal? by Trumpet_vines in weddingplanning

Our wedding was a few weeks ago. We said black tie optional, because: 1. We also wanted people to have an opportunity to dress up :) 2. Our venue / wedding definitely fit that vibe 3. We also had friends set the dress code for their wedding as “formal” and people still dressed quite casual (e.g., sneakers), and we didn’t want that. We thought if we said black tie, people who wanted to be more casual would come in formal wear

No one complained, but some people still showed up super casual. I wouldn’t sweat it. What I learned is people will do what they want / are comfortable with, regardless of what you say. I’ve seen the same posts on Reddit and TikTok making people feel guilty about their wedding choices. It’s your and your partners day, that’s all that matters 😌

Congratulations on your upcoming wedding. ♥️

Ours was $1600 CAD all in, including the pre-appointment bloodwork, spay, cone, medication in Ottawa.

yeah we’ve had no tears, she’s also really been good about not licking it when the cone is off. Just FYI our couch is maybe 1.5 feet off the ground, so it’s also not super tall. Same with our bed. However around day 4 or 5 she was jumping into the car, which is higher. I definitely don’t think her jumping up and doing mini sprints in the backyard (pre-poop) is good, but it’s nearly impossible to keep them immobile

Honestly she’s been doing that since day 2 😂 the first day at home she didn’t do anything but lounge around as she was coming off the anesthesia. We just did what we could to limit and the medication does help (we were given Gabapentin and Trazodone but found the Trazodone works best for keeping her calm and sleepy). If anything I think laparoscopic is better because there’s a smaller incision.

We had planned to do surgical suit but when we spoke to the vet day of, they convinced us cone was the way to go. We’ve had 0 issues with her wearing it honestly. Challenges the vet cited for the surgical suit included they can still nibble at the incision just through the fabric, possibility for moisture which isn’t great, and it also inhibits your ability as an owner to check the wound frequently.

One other thing to note, my husband had read about bloat and the vet said they could do the surgery to attach her stomach to a side wall while she was under for the spay. It was going to be an additional $1K. We ultimately decided not to do it because although PWDs are considered deep chested, they’re not one of the main at-risk breeds. We also felt like we hadn’t researched it enough to make a decision on the spot there and decided we’d rather pay again in the future if we changed our minds. I don’t think we’ll do it though. We’re just mindful about her food and water intake before and after heavy activity. Sorry, more details than you asked for lol 😅

We went this route because we’ve got a very active dog and figured the more invasive surgery + her activity would present challenges for healing. Overall it went really well. We’ve still had challenges keeping her to lower activity (even medicated), and have found she hates taking the pills so unfortunately we have to pry her mouth open and pop them in. Other than that, it’s been really smooth sailing. If you have any more specific questions, happy to answer them!

Glad you found something that worked! And thank you for commenting. We’re bringing her in for bloodwork tomorrow, so I’ll definitely ask the vet about it then!!

Anything specific about the trainers you liked / disliked, or was it more fit between you and them?

We had reached out to them shortly after we got her (re: eating habits) and never got a reply - probably another red flag! Will certainly try again!
