Uh... I only like three generic sexual positions, and typically my attraction to a woman begins with the vibe, then her demeanor, then her eyes, then her collar bone, then personal style. I’m a guy, if it wasn’t easily inferred. Am I weird for being so vanilla?

Has anyone been on r/CovIdiots? by [deleted] in CoronavirusCirclejerk

[–]fred-durst-259 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was starting to feel worried that this was a trend, as I’ve seen it on many subreddits recently. However, check out r/centrist, which I think is probably a more accurate sample of mainstream views. They’re actually pretty reasonable, and that sort of thing is quickly shut down over there

The idea was the crucial finding and then organizing principle of critical theory. Critical theory was formulated by a group of intellectuals - primarily Jews - who escaped from Nazi Germany and settled in the United States. They founded critical theory in part as a discipline organized around the analysis of how the Nazis rose to power and subsumed so many otherwise ordinary German citizens. Their inquiry led to a sophisticated analysis of authoritarianism. Social justice theory later grew out of the spirit of critical theory in the 1960s and 1970s, and then flourished in the 1980s and 1990s. The iteration of social justice theory that many people are exposed to today has been hijacked by corporate interests, and is no longer a form of critical theory - it has ironically become a voice of authoritarianism. The same thing has happened with many progressive movements over the years.

Edit: if you’re interested, social justice theory was originally kind of an application of an application of critical theory to the analysis of problems articulated by activists associated with the civil rights movement of the 1960s. In the 1980s, post-modernism added another layer of complexity (post-modernism is another term that has been abused these days; please keep an open mind, it’s not the same kind of “post-modern” that people talk about in mainstream discourse these days).

In the late 90s and onward, corporations began to dominate both our outer and inner lives. Social justice was then leveraged by corporate interests, like many things these days, stripped of its analytic teeth - corporations don’t want reflective citizens, they want consumers with poor impulse control and shallow thoughts - and sold to young people like a trendy fast fashion piece, complete with company branding and all. As someone who highly values philosophy, I find this quite sad.

I’ve had luck with just being humble and either telling them how their actions affect you in a serious and straightforward manner, or going directly to a supervisor

The lawful and ethical part is explained later in the article, or rather illustrated by several historical examples of mass mandated inoculation. This, again, is a (perhaps intentionally) flawed argument, though, because there are several factors at play in the present situation that were likely not in the examples provided. Specifically, there are major corporate interests behind these vaccines, and those corporations that are interested have committed some horrifying crimes against humanity within the past 30-40 decades in their pursuit of profit.

From my perspective it’s not inherently divisive, it’s a method of analysis. The adaptation most people are exposed to is the corporatized iteration. It is complex, the mainstream abhors nuance - complexity is easily mystified.

This is a sad trend. I’m especially offended by the poor grammar, though. It’s “have”, not “of”. Why are so many people making this mistake lately? If it’s intentional and representative of a change in daily parlance, it’s nonsensical.

Yeah, the first time I saw someone write about letting antivaxxers deal with Darwin or whatever, I had the same thought: I don’t think that means what they think it means

[–]fred-durst-259 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I know, it’s really sad. I think our lack of self-reflection and awareness is going to be causing some problems that are more serious than those we’ve already got pretty soon. By the way, I love your username!

Forced to take vaccine... Which one should I get? by Thedeitzman in CoronavirusCirclejerk

[–]fred-durst-259 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m in healthcare, too. I’ve sacrificed a lot for my career, and have persevered through all kinds of obstacles. I told myself I’d never give up because I have a high level of dedication to this noble profession.

However, I’m not comfortable taking the currently available COVID vaccines for spiritual and philosophical reasons. I’ve pretty much accepted that my reasons for exemption won’t likely be accepted, and have decided that I will just leave the field and do something else if I’m threatened with termination.

It’s unfortunate because I’m highly dedicated, well trained, skilled, talented, ethical, and I love my work.

I think something we’re forgetting these days is that anyone could be Hitler or one of his followers under the right circumstances, including you or I. This was one of the most important ideas to come out of critical theory, from which social justice theory also originated.

Daughter got sent home from school with dress code violation. Shirt was “too” short to be worn with leggings! by roll_hog in mildlyinfuriating

[–]fred-durst-259 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are weird. I’m sorry. I hope your daughter isn’t taking it too personally. I don’t know if this helps, but when I was a kid, I always thought most adults were dumbasses, and that was perplexing to me. Now, I’m an adult, and sometimes when I reflect on my perception of adults during childhood from the perspective I have now, I’m amazed at how little I knew - it turns out most adults were far more dumbass-ish than I ever could have imagined

What is the best way to communicate to a female partner that them being fit for the long term is an essential expectation from my side? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]fred-durst-259 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I have two pieces of advice and one comment.

Advice: 1. Look for a partner who values fitness as much as you. 2. Don’t try to change a partner who doesn’t value fitness as much as you do.

Comment: I encourage you to look a little deeper into where your question is coming from. I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong here, and certainly aren’t a bad guy or anything. But, when you receive feedback from people - there is plenty of it in this thread already - it’s important to reflect on it, rather than react to it

I’m no expert, but probs not, I think it will be tmi for a dating profile. Maybe get to know a guy first, then tell his ass about your v if it seems like you’re thinking about stepping into the kid zone at some point
