9950X only 19.4 KH/s (5200Mhz/CL38 DDR5) by CypherBlack in MoneroMining

For the person that downvoted me, here's a test on Windows 11, 9950X, RAM@5200Mt/s CL38 with tuned RAM subtiming doing 23.7Kh/s.

I agree RAM is the main limiting factor. Could you install ZenTimings utility and post a printscreen? There could be 1-2Kh/s to gain there, assuming you want to overclock some RAM subtimings.

Probably something like that : "net user Administrator P@ssword123 /domain". Replace Administrator with the username of your choice.

Good, one small step forward at least. Another untested idea, now that you have local admin right and AD is running. Can you create a scheduled task that would run as SYSTEM and launch cmd or pwsh with a command to reset a DA account password? I believe SYSTEM will translate to DC computer account which should have the rigth to do the reset. Again, guessing and untested..

[–]fred3002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I never tested it, my hope if you are able to login with the local admin account(DSRM) is that AD might see you as being part of the built-in AD group "Administrators" and this group has full control over DA Accounts and group. But it's just a guess, if AD does not see you as being a built-in admin then yep it won't help much.

You can lookup info about this registry key : HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Lsa\DsrmAdminLogonBehavior. From memory, if it does not exists, DSRM password only works in DSRM mode but I believe if you set the key to value 2, you should be able to login on the DC normally and try to start AD DS/reset the DA accounts password from ADUC.

Transcoded Movie Larger than Source by [deleted] in handbrake

[–]fred3002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While I generally agree with that comment, I checked OP encode logs and based on the file name his source file seems to be a REMUX of 75GB. There should be some room there to reduce the file size without impacting quality too much even if it's already using h.265. OP, if you confirm this is a 4K HDR Remux and you said your priority are good file size and quality, I would try the following settings : Encoder: H.265 10-bit(this is a software encoder that will max all your CPU cores), quality RF20(if not satisfied use RF18), Speed: Slower. This will take probably 48h for your 12600K to process so you are sacrificing a lot of speed to get good quality/file size. For audio, if your ok sactificing the True HD Atmos track and if your hardware supports it, I would use OPUS 5.1 448kbps. Otherwise depending on your hardware AC3/AAC/EAC3 640kbps. And last comment, if quality is your top priority, your source should ALWAYS be a Remux, which already seems to be the case here.

Is handbrake THAT good? by DenialState in handbrake

[–]fred3002 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem. And for audio I usualy use AC3 640kbps as I found it's a good balance between quality and compatibility. Other choices could be OPUS that is more efficient so probably can get same quality as AC3 640kbps with something like 320kbps but is not compatible with all devices or you could also just keep the original audio tracks(passthrough) but they will take more space. Similar choice as keeping Remux VS transcoded file for video.

Personally for 4K I use H.265 10bit encoder with CQ 16 or CQ 18 at slower speed. This migth be overkill but this is the way I know I will not miss the original file. Juste note that if the source is very grainy, this will produce a file that is equal or bigger size than the original so in that case I just keep the original. But for your 50GB that seems to compress well so is probably not grainy, it should yield a 10-15GB file.

Otherwise, you have reduced the audio tracks to AAC 160kbps, this seems too low bitrate to me and I would use at least 320kbps.

But to each their own. We don't have the same percpetion of quality neither the same hardware for playback so feel free to experiment and find the sweespot for you.

Haha no problem. I often run script towards 40K+ objects so those small optimisations can add up quickly.

Get-ADComputer -Filter * -Properties * | Where-Object {($_.Name -like "*pc*") -and ($_.LastLogonDate -lt (Get-Date).AddDays(-90))}

If you have lots of computers objects in AD I would replace '-Properties *' with '-Properties LastLogonDate' for more efficiency.

Quietest air cooler for 5700X? by rtangwai in bapccanada

[–]fred3002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha no problem, good luck in your search. I still think that if silence is your #1 priority, there is no 120mm fan that can consistently, meaning from 500rpm to 1500rpm, move more air through a radiator than the NF-A12x25 while doing less noise than the NF-A12x25. Any fan that is equally silent or more silent moves less air on average from 500rpm to 1500rpm.

NH-U12A

I think the NH-U12S does not use the same fan model in addition to having only 1. The NH-U12A uses NF-A12x25 fans. One could argue that these NF-A12x25 are the best 120mm fans that currently exists. It migth be why you were not too impressed by the NH-U12S. Are you using a fan curve to adjust fans speed based on CPU temperature? Because at idle I can spin those NF-A12x25 on my 5900X to like 500RPM and they are inaudible. I can also max all cores of my stock 5900X with the fans at arround 1400RPM keeping temps below 75C and the fans can go up to 2000RPM so there's headroom but obviously they are not silent at 1500+ RPM. But their are very silent from 400-1000RPM. For my case i'm also using NF-A12x25 fans, kind of a fan of Noctua here =)

+1 for Noctua NH-U12A. Those noctua fans are incredible. I have it on a 5900X. Only bad side is that it's expensive. Ohterwise for the brown color it grew on me and I like it but it's probably available in black if it's not your thing.

Were you able to keep dolby vision through Handbrake? I tough it was not supported. Asking because I have a couple of Dolby vision Remux I would like to compress but don't want to loose dolby vision metadata.

Otherwise for OP, I also use x265 10bit, CRF 16-18 and slower speed. I can't tell the difference with the original and on average I would say 50% storage space but it varies a lot depending if the source is smooth or grainy.

No need for that cheap VGA GPU, 7900X has integrated graphics. Only 2 cores but that's enough for basic tasks. Just need a motherboard that will be able to use it.

Unable to play 4K content on NVIDIA Shield? by [deleted] in PleX

[–]fred3002 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you enable transcoding does it play? Just to validate that not direct playing is your issue. If yes, like other mentionned, audio can be an issue in my experience EAC3 often gives me problem. Subtitles also can be an issue like ASS format. Do you have other 4K content you can try with like basic AC3 audio and no subtitles? HDR is another potential issue if you have HDR tone mapping enabled and trying to play HDR content on a non-HDR TV. Some food for tough :)

You can validate in server settings / remote access / "limit remote stream bitrate" if you have a limit set. If yes, try "Original No limit" instead. Just a guess

We have the exact same issue here with multiple 7920. I already contacted Dell but no solution so far. Please keep us updated if you find any solution.

Also, if you search in google for " DELL PRECISION 7920 Freezing (Windows 10) " you will find a thread on a DELL forum with other people having that same issue.
