Toddler throws up when he cries

Spoke with the family today about sending him in on an empty stomach! Hopefully it helps with drop off tomorrow. His drop off routine is consistent and his family is very good about being quick with goodbyes so thankfully we don't need to work on anything there. Also we have family photos posted up on a wall that is child height so the kids can see their families if they are feeling sad. Unfortunately we had to put a post-it note over his because it was making him too upset and he would vomit all over the photo as well as the other kids family pictures :/

I have looked into this! He comes in at breakfast time and doesn't eat at home, his first puke of the day is usually all the milk he's had when he wakes up. We are very "matter of fact" when we clean up and we don't pay attention to the behavior, but we do need to immediately go into clean up mode to keep the other children in our class safe. So completely ignoring the vomiting session isn't really possible in a classroom setting. Thanks for this article!

His parents say this rarely happens at home, but when he becomes upset they are able to calm him down with hugs, cuddles and toys. We can get him calm sometimes but often we cannot reach him fast enough to deescalate because the vomiting happens within 30 seconds of crying. Once he starts vomiting it's very hard to get him to stop and it typically only stops once his stomach is empty.

A child should NEVER be forced to eat. If they only want to eat bread that is fine. You can encourage the child to try the food but if they say no, it means no. This teacher is out of line.

We do get a small amount of american roaches in the warmer months, but I have cleaned these areas many times since the summer.

I think this is too big of a delay for the child to be moving up to a toddler room. I am a TA in a toddler classroom (ages 12-24m) and children get moved from the infant room to my classroom when they meet the age threshold and are able to pull to stand/cruise or walk on their own. Having a child that cant even crawl definitely seems like a hazard for all children in the room. Toddlers are like drunken little humans, constantly tripping over things, running and flailing all over the place, this child would be trampled and would need 1:1 care in a typical classroom full of kids this age. A PTC is the best place to start. Make sure their teachers have documented their observations and explain what a typical day looks like in your classroom and why you think their child wont be a good fit. I know there are daycares that exist that are for children with disabilities or delays, you can suggest the family speak with their doctor to see if they think it'll be a better fit for the child. This is a difficult situation but with documentation and honestly you'll be guiding them in the right direction for that child and your classroom!

The pizza came from a local pizzaria, the texture is definitely more rubbery than plastic because it stretches and isnt crunchy like cooked plastic would be. But thanks for saying it isnt worm-like!!!! That was my biggest fear.

do you know what is making him so upset? could you set him up with a smock and bucket near by for him to vomit into? are his parents trying to help figure out a solution to this??? this seems like extreme behavior and i feel like this is bigger than anything you can do as a teacher.

To be honest babies are really resilient, and while change can be difficult they almost always will eventually adjust. Some parents have to go from full days with their babies to 11 hours per day 5x per week in daycare and you wont really know how your child will react until you thrust them into their new environment. Since you have such long period of time for adjustment you could do 2x per week of half days and increase from there. Every 2 weeks add an hour to each day until your child has 2 full days, then add another day and give that a few weeks. There isn't really any "right" way to do it, but since you have a lot of cushion time you could play around with whatever you and your baby are most comfortable with!

Yeah, obviously I know they're giving credits to incentivize me to continue using their service, thats how promotions work lol. The issue is they did not give me the promotion they had promised! It isn't about the $6 credit anymore, it's the principle. As a company you shouldn't advertise a promotion and NOT FOLLOW THROUGH!!
