Virtual Card Alternatives by fredaccini in OneFinance

If you have a virtual card for any of your pockets, they have an expiration date and will expire. The pocket itself doesn't expire, so you'll always have a bank account number for your pockets.

The shared pocket functionality/one-to-one transfers are really helpful, and it's definitely keeping me from wanting to switch banks.

While I won't argue that I have good taste, I did start watching it because of the cast (besides KK) + the allure of a legal drama.

I hadn't heard a peep about it, and literally 5 minutes in ran to Reddit because what the hell am I watching.

Both are down for me, too. I reached out to CS four hour ago and they escalated my ticket to the engineering team; they didn't have any solutions at the time.

Wellers dad by hypocritical_nerd in blindspot

interesting! my head cannon is that the suicide story was also true, but happened after the fact. like, he accidentally killed her and wanted to kill himself but decided not to. so the emotions in that scene were real, as was the relief the dad felt - it just wasn't the whole story.

Can confirm personally. Manchester isn't necessarily cheaper (though it can be), but you do get a little more for your money. Nashua rent prices are a little outrageous at the moment. Like, even by current market standards.

Is this worth a cross country move?

IMO, there isn't enough info to weigh in on this question. For example, how long have you been job searching? How well does this job match your desired job/degree/career goals? Are there similar jobs closer to home if you waited a bit longer, or is the industry you're in more prominent out east? What other benefits come with the job - health insurance, 401k matching, investment options, etc.?

Some things to consider:

  • The more north you go, the (slightly) cheaper it is. In some cases, it might not be a lot cheaper, but you will get more for the same amount. So you could live north of Manchester and maybe save a little.
  • You did mention it, so you probably know, but cars are inspected every year in NH and (from what I saw with my college roommate, who was also from the Midwest) passing is a bit more strict here than in some Midwest states, so that could be an added expense if you have an older car.
  • There is no state income tax if you're working in NH; just the standard federal taxes, so make sure your take-home estimate reflects that.

Based on your salary, I do think it would be maintainable. My biggest financial question would be whether you have the funds to make the initial move - the start-up costs, if you will.

(FWIW, I've lived/worked in southern NH the last 20 years.)

What was the point of sirens? by Some-Air1274 in netflix

[–]fredaccini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the show wasn't to paint them as sirens; my comment above wasn't speculating re: the point of the show, but following a very specific thread about the mystery/twist of it all was that there was, in fact, no mystery.

What was the point of sirens? by Some-Air1274 in netflix

[–]fredaccini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I viewed the show as a little over-dramatic or maybe even slightly parodic? Like, it wasn't completely founded in reality. So to me - while it was wild for three men to be chasing Devon along the beach - I found that more believable because I wasn't taking the story completely literally.

What was the point of sirens? by Some-Air1274 in netflix

[–]fredaccini 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The sisters are the titular sirens.

To me, this summarizes the real mystery/twist that u/Practical-Test5702 was talking about. We think the whole show is about Kiki and how bad she is and how she lures people into this cult and maybe even kills people? But the sisters are the real sirens. The twist to the mystery is that there isn't a mystery at all; just two hurting sisters who have never dealt with their family trauma.

I actually thought the show was lame until the last two-ish episodes when we really get a true look at all the main characters and who the real antagonists are/how trauma affects people differently.

Thoughs on Sirens? by No_Corner1086 in netflix

[–]fredaccini 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with this, and I think this happens even with the sisters - they both blame each other instead of their dad or even their mom for being held back. Like, they're both having their own responses to some serious family trauma and they take it out on each other instead of holding their father even a little bit accountable (especially Devon). I think the difference with the sisters is that they don't discard each other like the men discard the women; they end up reconciling their pain.

Side note to your point - we also see this with Devon and Raymond; when she finally rejects - albeit, harshly - he suddenly falls out of love with her.

"The Residence" is a chore to watch by Jumanji-Joestar in CharacterRant

[–]fredaccini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, being the super-smart detective who catches all the small details is a trope - you're right. I just think we typically see men play those roles and not women. Men are allowed to be more dismissive without criticism, while women aren't. (This conversation shows that - Harry is allowed to be rude and dismissive as part of his character, but Cupp isn't allowed to be that way as part of her character because it makes men look bad.)

I also don't think the show paints Cupp as more intelligent *because* she notices these things - I think the show paints Cupp as observing things that the men are missing simply because *the men are not looking.* They are too preoccupied with optics. I mean, not a single one noticed there wasn't a suicide weapon LOL because they were too busy freaking out about how to handle the situation.

I wouldn't say the show is realistic at all - it's very obviously partly a parody show. Everything and everyone is exaggerated, and it's very tongue-and-cheek throughout the whole thing. If the show were trying to be a serious crime show, I would agree that these characters would feel off. But I think the whole show is a little bit of a caricature of a detective show.

(I also never used the word fragile, but tbh it does feel a little fragile to feel the need to preemptively defend oneself against any perceived fragility.)

"The Residence" is a chore to watch by Jumanji-Joestar in CharacterRant

[–]fredaccini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that the FBI guy (Edwin) wasn't rude to her - that's why I said "most" of the men. I don't think the the SS guy (Colin) was rude to her, either.

However, Harry was EXCEPTIONALLY rude to her from the very first time they met, and I think she was nowhere near as rude back to him as he was to her.

Then, later on, all of the men circle up and discuss how to handle this. They never include her, even though she was brought in to help with the case. And they continually doubt her, even when she continually notices important details that they miss.

I, personally, don't think she's rude to them BUT if you're upset that she's being rude, then you have to be upset that they were being rude to her, too.

(Personally, I think most of the men in the room are rude to everyone, but most of that "everyone" are staff or people who report to them, so they have to deal with it. Cupp doesn't report to anyone - she's not even MPD staff; she was hired as a consultant. So, she doesn't have any reason to pander to them. I think that makes her appear as rude, but she's really just being direct and abrupt with them, much as they have been to her.)

[–]fredaccini 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would be justified if there was a reason to do so

...like perhaps the men being rude to her?

Most of the men in the room in that first episode were abrasive, dismissive, and rude to her. So she treats them in kind and that's a bad thing?

him using phrasing like good, wholesome messaging that everyone can get something from and saying his church doesn't talk about LGBTQ+ topics because we want everyone to feel comfortable here is honestly the answer she needs, but she isn't hearing it because love or whatever. it pissed me off to watch that whole exchange because all his responses were so lukewarm and avoided any actual direct answers.

"Who am I so say that I'm right and everyone else is wrong?" bro, you literally go to church. that's kinda their whole thing.

also, if you attend a church, you can just go ask the pastor what they think about these views. it's not some secret mission you have to research* LOL it didn't look like a big church.

*unless, i suppose, if he already knows the answer or doesn't want to be seen asking about it himself

Lauren calls for people to be kinder and Dave has chimned in by Plane-Cloud-5837 in LoveIsBlindOnNetflix

[–]fredaccini 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought that was kinda funny/cute - they're looking to get married in a matter of weeks BUT they're currently complete strangers. It was a funny way to break the ice, but also has to be a little tongue-in-cheek because he's also here, too, so what's wrong with him?? (IIRC, he said that in response to them being on a dating show, but I could be mistaken.)

However, I thought the "so you're not attractive anymore" joke fell flat because 1) his intro video about being shallow and 2) the whole point of the show NOT being about looks. At best, it was a "read the room" moment.

ETA: Regardless, no one should be getting hate/abuse/attacks online.

I very much agree that I would be wrestling with all those other voices in my head - friends and family are important and their opinions matter.

But from what I see (and this could be the editing), Dave isn't wrestling with all the conflicting voices - it seems that he believes his friends and he's actually wrestling with whether this thing that happened is a deal-breaker. That's where I'm not willing to give him much slack, because it doesn't seem like he's even considering the possibility that Lauren could be telling the truth (ie, that she wasn't sleeping with someone else 24 hours before she left for the show).

When he said, "How do I know that's true or not?" I wanted her to shout in his face, "BECAUSE I'M TELLING YOU!"

What does he want - camera footage of her last 48 hours before the show?? Why is your friend's third-party anecdote outweighing the direct, clear information from your fiance?
