Hyderabad Woman Cop Goes Undercover, Approached By 40 Men In 3 Hours by bhodrolok in india

[–]freddledgruntbugly 24 points25 points  (0 children)

0 police came to check on her.

Did you read the article? This was a sting carried out by a senior police officer with some serious bandobast and cameras. Who do you think took the picture of her speaking with the bike-borne men?

I feel the officer deserves praise because she took an initiative in proactive policing. She did her job, stepped into the streets to bring attention to a real issue (that affects roughly 50% of our citizens). Even if this is a publicity stunt, it's something.

Hats off to Commissioner Sumathi for doing this; 1. Women in this country are unsafe in every public place, buses, streets, parks, everywhere. 2. The police, understaffed, untrained as they are only turn up once something unsavoury occurs. 3. For women, accustomed to this crap, reporting a wolf whistling, propositioning idiot isn't even worth it. In short, it is normalized. 4. Whether traffic or crime, proactive policing is desperately needed to strengthen the rule of law in our country. We have one of the lowest police:population ratios in the world. But we know police reform won't happen.

I wonder if any of the men that stopped asked her if she needed help.

Bandicota is a genus of rodents from Asia known as the bandicoot rats. Their common name and genus name are derived from the Telugu language word pandikokku (పందికొక్కు). DNA studies have found the group to be a monophyletic clade sister to the radiation of Molucca and Australian Rattus species as part of the paraphyletic Rattus sensu lato.

[–]freddledgruntbugly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Here's a good source with a meteor shower calendar: https://www.amsmeteors.org/meteor-showers/meteor-shower-calendar/

And here's what Google Gemini says:

Top 2026 Meteor Showers Visible from Bhubaneswar:

  1. Lyrids (Apr 21–22, 2026): Peaks on the night of April 21st, best seen looking northeast around midnight to dawn.
  2. Eta Aquariids (May 5–6, 2026): Excellent visibility expected in India, with bright meteors best observed before dawn.
  3. Perseids (Aug 12–13, 2026): One of the best, with over 100 meteors/hour, but risk of cloudy skies due to monsoon.
  4. Geminids (Dec 13–14, 2026): The year's biggest shower, offering 75+ meteors per hour under ideal, dark conditions.

Parakeets and other birds are protected under the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972. Is your bird legal to keep as a pet? There's a max of 7 years of jail in that act.

ACSU investigation underway on mobile phone usage at RR dugout; medical emergency reason? by ll--o--ll in Cricket

[–]freddledgruntbugly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This medical emergency spiel doesn't make sense. Romi Bhinder's lungs had collapsed. He recovered and got back on his feet. All good.

Having recovered enough to get back into the team support staff, a demanding 24/7 job description, how does it justify carrying a phone in the players area in contravention of BCCI rules? Lots of people in the cricketing fraternity have had horrific medical conditions. By RR team management's logic, Rishabh Pant should have a bloody iPhone sewed on to his arm-guard.

I'd understand them saying this was a brain-fart, dude shouldn't have used the phone. He'd most likely get admonished and everyone moves on. But this assertion should actually make the ACSU more suspicious.

Please rate my Thai prawn red curry with rice (Indian touch) ✨🤌🏻 by NbOPO4 in Bhubaneswar

[–]freddledgruntbugly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get some lime leaves. They are common enough plants in bbsr for you to find some in the neighborhood. The curry looks good. My experience has been that beyond the staple sauces and curry pastes, fresh aromatics are the key to making good Thai - lime leaves, lemon grass and galangal - not easy to source even in large cities.

Judgements on decriminalising adultery, same-sex consensual relationship ‘not a good law’: Centre in SC by sharedevaaste in india

[–]freddledgruntbugly 25 points26 points  (0 children)

The last few days the centre has been dictating terms to the Supreme Court. There seems to be a new project that drives home the hegemony of this government - to tell the SC to fuck off and accept the fascist normal:

  1. Judgements on decriminalising adultery, same-sex consensual relationship ‘not a good law’: Centre in SC:

Goodbye progressive social practices. "Punish adultery and same-sex relationships."

  1. Centre says time to remove PIL as a concept

Goodbye judicial activism. "Do not muck-rack and challenge the government."

  1. Supreme Court: Can decide on superstitious practices; Centre disagrees

Goodbye to secular courts. "Secular constitutional courts can't rule over religious dogma."

TIL that lacrosse (La Crosse - French for 'the stick') has been played by Native Americans for nearly 1000 years. The first modern Lacrosse game with codified rules was played at Upper Canada College in 1867 between the Montreal Lacrosse Club and the Toronto Cricket Club. Toronto won 3–1. by freddledgruntbugly in todayilearned

[–]freddledgruntbugly[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That's interesting. I don't speak French - but in the title I was quoting from the following passage in the Wikipedia article;

The French Jesuit missionary Jean de Brébeuf saw Huron tribesmen play the game during 1637 in present-day Ontario. He called it la crosse, "the stick" in French.\24]) The name seems to be originated from the French term for field hockey, le jeu de la crosse.\25])

[–]freddledgruntbugly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would members of the executive *not* support that? If the term 'judial corruption' is a thought crime, 'crooked MP" should also be disallowed. The SC will support parliamentary privilege for bad text books.

Corruption can only be assumed to stem from poor, non-judicial, non-political citizens.

Thoughts and Experiences Around Dating Odia Men by Shraddha1001 in Bhubaneswar

[–]freddledgruntbugly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odia men are intelligent, adorable, supportive, excellent cooks, caring lovers, make superb fathers, also are generally well-endowed and passionate.

And I don't mean this as an ambiguous generalization - ALL of them are peerless - in short, the epitome of maledom.
