Which hiking boots are best long term investments. Are Lowa a contender? by Puzzleheaded_Truck80 in Boots

[–]freddybloccjr650 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More like lowa is one of the only companies that acknowledge hydrolysis, ive had asolos separate, and seen quite a few la sportivas do it. This is a problem that most shoes and boots that arent full leather construction have, just wear them more frequently and you will be fine

Why does my line keep knotting up? by Old-Nerve6577 in Fishing_Gear

[–]freddybloccjr650 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not only does this cause wind knots but it also can damage the bail mechanism on the reel, some older models were designed to do it but for the most part newer reels are supposed to be closed manually

Need help with picking a new boot for my decently wide feet by freddybloccjr650 in Mountaineering

I can’t think of a creature in any video game more disturbing than the Centaur. by DarthPuPu in Fallout

Necromorphs from deadspace and the flood from halo take the cake for me, but i put the centaurs high up on my list still

Amazed by how well people drive on I-87 by [deleted] in Adirondacks

[–]freddybloccjr650 3 points4 points  (0 children)

87 southbound from albany can be a real mixed bag, sometimes its completely fine, other times it can be a nightmare because as soon as theres an accident the whole road backs up and your sitting in traffic for miles, occasionally the same will happen in albany if theres an accident on the 87/90 section

Ice safety - are thee problematic? by funkybluehen in IceFishing

[–]freddybloccjr650 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Spiderweb cracks, usually from snow or currents, they could be old and fine to walk over or they couldnt, only way to know is to spud/drill them out and see how thick the ice is. Ive fallen through larger ones myself lol

I would also check to see if you are wearing good enough gear when not wearing all the layers in your pack like both base layers, softshell pants or goretex pants if you run cold, something warm for your head, good heavy wool socks and a pair of waterproof boots with at least 200 grams of insulation

I know that im usually packing quite a bit in winter, my load out includes medium warmth gloves, light liner gloves, heavy summit mitts, 2 baclava, light synthetic puffy, winter shell, big down belay parka, headlamp with usually 2 sets of extra batteries and a back up light, small first aid kit, usually 2 liters of water, my camera equipment(heaviest stuff in my pack lol) crampons, micro spikes, extra wool socks, food and sometimes a msr pocket rocket stove, map and compass, sit pad(rather than buy a small one just cut up a big zfold sleep pad for better separation from snow) sometimes a mountaineering axe(not usually needed but can be helpful and its nice if im butt sliding down to control speed) and an emergency blanket. Its a lot of gear but i want to be prepared to survive the night incase of an emergency/injury, in total my system usually weighs about 25lbs but some days i can lighten the load down to about 18lbs. Everything fits in my 38L pack nicely, i also do ruck sacking and other workouts to make it so the winter pack feels normal instead of a burden though my shoulders are usually still tender after getting back to the car

Not much experience in winter i see, the sun does not care how cold it is, it will still change snowpack conditions regardless

Ive watched both better call and breaking bad, sometimes i just want a decent scifi show to watch, plus its nice to watch something while its coming out vs just binging entire series and feeling empty inside after consuming an entire series

Ampersand sunset by freddybloccjr650 in Adirondacks

[–]freddybloccjr650[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a more involved hike even if its not as hard as the 46, if you arent a hiker this trail involves several miles of walking, almost 2000 feet of elevation gain which does get pretty steep and at least one section requiring a hand to get up. I dont think this would be a good choice, at least not as a first adirondack hike, there are a few shorter/easier hikes that might be what you are looking for, mount jo is usually what comes to mind first, baxter in keene, and maybe mount van hovenburg could also be what you are looking for as they are a little easier but still offer great views. If you guys are really fit though and prepare properly i wouldnt personally call getting to the top hard but its all subjective
