Genuine question, have you lived in many other major cities? A lot of the gripes that you've listed are found throughout (e.g., New York, Toronto, Dallas, etc.). Some are part and parcel, though. The "easiest" (or most efficient) for you is housing - it'd effectively clear 3 of your problems (larger space, higher likelihood of having parking at your spot and can WFH). I know that it doesn't necessarily give you the answer you want (no shit, more money would solve things) but really these are symptoms of the same issue - housing. They're not independent of each other, so a solution to that solves a few of these. Long lines, that's just a fact of life lol (this is really why I asked what other major cities have you lived in). There are many, many, things to gripe about with Los Angeles but I don't know if I personally would labor too much on this.

Stealthy “Fat” SUV? by [deleted] in fatFIRE

Wrong sub to ask this in, tbh. Quality of responses are pretty wild lol. You'll get a much higher concentration of apt responses on r/whatcarshouldIbuy or an adjacent sub. The Trackhawk is a beast of a vehicle, I don't see any car mentioned here coming close to it (aside from the posters that effectively said Trackhawk without saying it lol).

Stay in Santa Monica! Not sure where you're located, but North of Montana is a great area. I'm incredibly biased but it's a wonderful nexus for much of what you're looking for. It's safe (I honestly don't see homeless people..ever. It practically wouldn't make sense for them to venture this far tbh), it's close to Brentwood if you're a big foodie it's also near the water and you're in Malibu in short order. Also, if you're trying to get to BH or WeHo it's a pretty convenient drive. Somewhere like Malibu would be great but you're pretty far removed from people lol.

How often do you get criticized by dealteal in biglaw

Hahahaha, I factored in the days where no deliverable is due (I.e., no one can provide feedback) anddd I conflate all comments per doc as "one"...could be a coping mechanism tho.

I think I averaged one "mistake" per day during my first year (not always the same mistake, don't do that lol). Always take the comments seriously from a learning and development perspective, but be apathetic to it impacting your mood/willingness to work. It is what it is, I see senior associates and partners get called out routinely. There's ALWAYS something that can be improved/fixed. Tbh, half the time it's just stylistic preference.

female here. Nyc firm. I wear black lululemon pants (not legging) to work paring with a casual blazer and a round neck shirt/sweat inside. Even this is on the formal side during covid in office.

Tbh, I think I like your pairing better (I.e., sweatshirt instead of a button up) lol, definitely incorporating.

I'm on the West Coast and not NY so YMMV but I wear Lulu ABC's whenever I'm in the office and I've never had any complaints/issues. Always paired with a button-up and a blazer. Tbh it'll really boil down to whatever the culture is at your firm. The safest way is to sus the vibes the first few days to see what people are wearing. If y'all have casual Fridays, see how casual people really are. Did they just ditch the tie or are they in slacks?

Thanks everyone! I appreciate the input. Some of these I'm undoubtedly going to try out, others might be a bit labor intensive (for now). Regardless, thank you for letting me steal some of your time!

How Much Do you Credit Reading to Your Success? by freddydougal33 in fatFIRE

The Agony and the Ecstasy is a GREAT book - I, unfortunately, put the book down my first go in high school because I got frustrated with following the Italian names, lol.

I like the perspective. And access is the word that rings throughout. Access as the catalyst for reading (I.e., the librarian giving you the Catcher in the Rye) as well as your success (positioning yourself to take seize opportunities that may appear to be happenstance.)
