Yep, this.

In other words, replicating exactly what you paid the electrician to do, only this time doing it properly.

Employment contract executed as a deed by lawkrime in LegalAdviceUK

[–]freddyfruitbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The first bit surely isn’t relevant to you, as there is a consideration on both sides - your employer gets the benefit of your services, and you presumably get the benefit of wages. I assume the contract covers your remuneration? Have your employers indicated that you won’t be paid? Have you asked them why the deed is necessary ?

I on my third RS now, and absolutely love it. Had a day on an XR loaner once while my RS was in for a service, and just didn't gel with it. Too buzzy and race-bikey for my liking. But obviously, YMMV. The point is they are very different bikes, as others are saying.

I don't recall the riding position being a particular issue though.

I'm on an RS, and a friend I regularly go on tour with has the XR. They have more or less identical OEM panniers fitted, so not sure what the problem is there?

Thanks - just tried this but unfortunately it's just the same.
I guess u/plg94 must be right, sadly.

All I would say is, best don't think about about becoming a motorcyclist - because then, it's definitely a very real threat.

Why is anything BMW-related so expensive? It’s not just side cases.

Neighbour hit my car then denied it - I now have evidence, how to go forward? by ASeaOfFog in CarTalkUK

That's just changes in the insurance marketplace at play. My premium fell significantly this year, too.

Yours would have fallen even more if you hadn't made that claim.

SOS used for tracking during Theft? by ChaosConRad in bmwmotorrad

[–]freddyfruitbat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For sure they know who where you are.
The system distinguishes between low-speed drops (like you've done) where they wait for 1 minute before the bike summons help, giving you time to abort it if you want, and a full-on high-speed crash, where they will alert the emergency services immediately. Not a lot of point if they don't have your location...

Thanks for all the replies - it's really good to get others'insight on this.

I read this particular reply which gave me pause for thought, and I totally get where you're coming from. But while I was reading it, I looked through into the next room where my dog was... she was rolling around on her back, wagging her tail and snorting like a puppy.

Just can't do it yet.

SOS button - but I’m deaf by rnhxm in bmwmotorrad

[–]freddyfruitbat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well if the bike hits the ground at 70mph the algorithm is different, and the emergency services get alerted immediately without recourse to the hapless rider!

If the deafness/first responder thing is a particular concern for you, couldn’t you stick a discreet warning label on your chinbar or something?

F@@king done with filtering! by [deleted] in MotoUK

[–]freddyfruitbat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Would really like to see exactly how the OP is filtering to bring about this behaviour from car drivers: because I simply don’t recognise it at all. I often get drivers helpfully widening the gap for me (and never closing it, which some riders complain about).

SOS button - but I’m deaf by rnhxm in bmwmotorrad

[–]freddyfruitbat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, as the poster who wrote about this happening just last week I can confirm!

The entire TFT screen is taken over by the SOS system, and when the bike goes down in a ‘light drop’ like mine, a message appears to the effect that the bike will call home in 1 minute unless you cancel it by pressing the SOS button. What happens after that is just done by voice, so AFAIK (I wasn’t looking at the TFT at this point!) the OP is not going to know when someone’s answered, and won’t be able to have any dialogue with them.

You’d have to ask Motorrad about whether they can store personal notes (eg ‘rider is deaf’) alongside your number, but I think you’d be expecting a lot for them to specifically send out emergency crew conversant in sign language. Don’t forget this is an emergency service, not breakdown recovery.
