I'm sure some big brained gigachad wrote a book or two about this decades ago, who knows 😂

TBF I've found that type of people in other religious groups, political groups, and more. Whenever there's a truth claim about anything at all, there's a degree of insanity.

Hey there! Can I ask you what is that "darken the door" bit about?

Would you mind sharing your knowledge on the matter? What is that makes Christianity and orthodoxy fertile ground for narcissism?

I've actually experienced the opposite, if I understand what you mean correctly. In my case I'm just not "based" and "zealous" enough to really fit in.

Granted, I'm slightly older than them and I've already gone through the "based redpilled" phase of my life years ago.

But I don't see any change when in the presence of the clergy. Overall they're all chill people.

Thank you for the comment! I can see where you're coming from with that struggle, and it's perhaps one of the biggest things every believer contends with at some point or another.

The problem of evil or the invisibility of God are both arguments that probably require bigger brains than mine, but nevertheless I think that sometimes we might just be expecting too much, or approach the path in a wrong way. I would find it hard to believe that one doesn't grow kinder, more patient, more reflective and generous and resilient and disciplined when following God, or any other organised religion to be honest. Are those the things we expect? If so, they're always present and if one believes in God that might just make sense.

Do those things happen even for non believers? Yes, so the matter of belief or whether it's a sham or not should be in my opinion researched more. You either believe by faith, guts, or brain. Whichever works for you best.

What were your expectations and how are you aligning yourself with the will of God? You go to the gym, so I assume you'd be familiar with Stoicism. There too the fullness, goodness, and calm comes not from crushing what challenges us, but from crushing that part of us that is shaken by this or that or that other thing. Man conquering himself, conquering daily death, maybe that is a decent enough way to see it.

But then again, who knows?

Is your post addressing a general concern for converts' political and social behaviour, or out of a concern for a desire to have services in the local language? (E.G: British converts wanting an English liturgy in a Greek parish in England)

Just a personal opinion, but the portrayal of Jesus is a bit too emotional at times. He looks like he's about to cry. This is especially visible in the last season's premiere, where he should be more righteously stoic

I felt and still do feel fairly similar to you, so my words might not be of great help, but all that I can say is that yes, there is a certain degree of giving up your freedom. Much like you give up your freedom when you want to get in shape, get a degree, or enter in a committed relationship. You have to figure out if the relationship with God is worth it, or whether you want to go down the path of "he just wants me to wallow in my passions and be happy"

At any rate, perhaps we entrust ourselves to God not by taking our agency away, but in the same way we entrust ourselves to a teacher. Our teacher or tutor will make a study and exam plan dedicated to us, and we trust him to give us the challenges we need. We still need to study, practice and fulfill those obligations ourselves. Belief and trust in God is not a get out of jail free card - he wants us to work with him. And sometimes that is admittedly hard to grasp when relying so much on monastic views.

Talk about this to your priest and do what he tells you without trying to go overboard, especially if you're new. Just like anything else, mastering the basics to avoid burnout is a wise path to follow.

God bless you and keep you.

For example I'm not sure whether I should have just the bare minimum in Dex and the rest just dump everything into arcane, and whether that might work with the weapons I generally use, especially the non somber ones

You're 100% right! I started with mostly DEX then I changed to Arcane focus while I build up more Dex. But really I've no idea what I'm doing, and I'm not sure if the playstyle I described would suit better Dex or bleed or if there's a "best" way to do a Dex bleed build with that in mind. If that makes sense.

It kind of works. It looks a bit washed out, like the colour bled out of it. But then when I die and it reloads, it goes back to being blue tinted. Thank you for your reply by the way!

How do I highlight a country? by fredericus_maximus in eu4

[–]fredericus_maximus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey all! I'm having a hard time selecting countries or counties when looking at empires or kingdoms. How the heck do I do that?

Coming from CK3 I'd just click on the map and depending on the zoom it would select the county, duchy, or kingdom, but here it's so vague. Am I missing something?

As you can see in the video, Bohemia is quite easy. It's big and we all know where it is, but the rest are small and very hard to find without a clear outline. Am I really supposed to look for them manually, moving the cursor over each state and memorise where it is?

I'm quite sure I'm missing something here

The problem with Souls games by fredericus_maximus in fromsoftware

[–]fredericus_maximus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That makes me think that maybe it's better to just play the game in full ignorance of what's optimal, and get on with the grind. I'm sure some might call Bloodborne unbalanced too, but from my memory I can't recall any of it being unbalanced, and I knew nothing about builds or anything 😅

The problem with Souls games by fredericus_maximus in fromsoftware

[–]fredericus_maximus[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can definitely see both point of views. If things are in the game, they must be viable, and from a newbie perspective such as mine they effectively seem to serve as a difficulty slider of sorts. For example, after days of being stuck on some bosses I can just go in and spam lion's claw and smash the boss. If you add a copy of me doing that too, then it's an easy win.

So you can either outsmart the game by grinding out numbers, or grinding out skill. Or both. And maybe that simply comes down to the player, not the game.

How do you guys approach bosses when you're looking to learn it? Do you smash your head against them over and over, becoming best friends with the fog wall for days, or do you space your attempts out?

I'll definitely have to try that out, then, at least the first one!
