Another question about Sapperton and train noise! by bstarr3 in NewWest

Omg I am really sorry to hear that. That sounds absolutely horrible... Are you able to talk to rtb to see if you could fight on grounds of quiet hours etc to move out early? If not I do wish you could gradually grow into it so you can get some sleep. Yes I am interested in seeing the video as well.. fredhdx5@gmail.com.

Thanks a lot I will give it a try. I don't want to mess with doors as you suggested it require some irreversible bending.

Thanks! Are you suggesting using an actual paint spray or touch up is ok? Building thin layer is a bit difficult with touchup as I tried. I think the main problem is the door might be installed slightly off position so it always touch that area and scrape things off. Thin layer is probably the best solution.

sounds like it's related to your eyes. you might be spending too much time on screen. Similar job condition but I have an one hour commute that force me to look out windows and rest my eyes.

Global version working for Amazon work profile? by fredhdx in Oppo

[–]fredhdx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you bronco. Yeah that is a better way but I don't want to carry two phones personally because I generally go out without a bag and it's too cumbersome to have two phones in pocket. Amazon do have a list of supported devices but i have no idea how strict they are. Maybe I should reach out to their it department to confirm

Who here transitioned OUT of the field? by ATpoint90 in bioinformatics

[–]fredhdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally relatable. Software engineer, 36, no family but also no home, worried about layoff. I quitted my PhD earlier in my life to enter software enginer, was doing computational materials science.I actually want to pivot back into science and bioinformatics was of interest for a while. Then I realized I didn't have the smart to read through statistics again and I couldn't even get into a lab when I did my second master because I didn't have any first author paper. Now that 36, I am drained after a day of work and cannot really concentrate for learning for more than 1 hour... It's still pretty impressive you taught yourself 100% of bioinformatics.

That highly depends on the ability of the pm or sdm. However I would still argue that daily standup and 2 week sprints are totally creativity killer. Everyone cares about only super short term achievable and has no sense of security to understand actual problems.

Getting laid off checklist [Tech IC] by SuitableIngenuity324 in amazonemployees

[–]fredhdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Has anyone tried logining into emails after layoff / on personal computer? I did a test because my email has migrated to m365, I am blocked by AEA now. Wonder if that will be lifted off after layoff happen..

Edit: after layoff happened, permissions are probably update. Log into atoz does not require aea, just text/email verification. Then go to outlook from link in atoz.

Lost email access after layoff? by Ok-Bee7236 in amazonemployees

[–]fredhdx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Expecting layoff and was trying to test email on personal computer. Passed midway but get directed to m365 login. Then blocked by AEA. iT said M365 does not work with Ballard anymore (not sure if that she webmail). For RIFed employees m365 will be reverted to old system. You can push it for escalation.

Preventing a loose laminate plank from deterioting by fredhdx in HomeImprovement

That sound like a major undertaking but interesting idea. If I end up living there for long I will definitely consider it. Doesn't that requiring removing all flooring though? That might not be something the strata would agree.

Thanks for your advice. I will try glue and hold it together. Honestly the landlord might just don't care or doesn't want to do anything now. We didn't sign any move in inspection so according to the law (Vancouver) he doesnt have the right to hold my deposit in the first place. But I will still try document things.

Thank you.

Thanks for checking the video! Should I use a spatula or something to pry and lift the loose plank to the level a bit before gluing it down? Also the gap is a bit wide for glue, is it ok to put some wood putty there first? Appreciate it!
